Fort Wilderness vs. CBR

This is my 17th scenario, so I'm hoping eventually I just stick with something :). We will be 5 of us....me, DH, and our 6, 2, and 1 year old kids. We are currently booked at CBR, and I am really excited about the resort theme...we love to cruise and love the islands. The pool and splash area look great for our kids, the sliding door will allow the 2 year old to have a little privacy while sleeping, and the resort just looks beautiful.
Our first choice, however, had actually been Ft. Wilderness. We love camping (in theory lol....we only have a tent so only our oldest has gone but we love the atmosphere of it) and thought the proximity to MK, the activities, and the ability to sit outside by the fire while the LOs nap or sleep would be ideal. But we are on a tight budget and renting a camper was too much and the cabins were WAY too much. Now, I've found a cheaper RV rental option that would allow us to stay. But now that we've been booked at CBR, I'm excited about that as well!
You guys have been such a big help, can you offer me any insight?

We absolutely love Fort Wilderness but quite honestly it really depends on what type of experience you and your family are looking for. Fort Wilderness definitely has plenty of activities and the people and environment over there definitely make it an awesome place to stay and hang out out. Staying in a camper is definitely an experience so if you and your family haven't stayed in one before and this is like your one trip this year type thing, I'd suggest just sticking with CBR just for the comfort and ease of having the space/full size bathroom, etc.

As you mentioned, one of the things we love about the Fort is being able to just hop on a boat to the MK. Also, Trails End, is one of the best buffets for any meal of the day on property, IMO.

Be sure to check out the Camping at Disney World forum on the boards here as well. Lots of other folks like myself who love the fort are over there and could potentially give you some more insight on the type of camper and rental company and what you might can expect.

With the age of your kids I would recommend CBR. Request a room with a Murphy bed for six year old or even two year old. The new remodeled rooms at CBR are great.

We have stayed at lots of resorts, many of which other people complain about the amount of walking, and it has never bothered us. We love CBR and POR and stayed in some of the buildings that have been the furthest from main complex, eg building 41 at CBR. It's a 5-7min walk. We recently stayed at FW, we loved it, but have to admit the walking did us in, after long park days. There is a great internal bus system and we used it. The reason I recommend CBR for you is the age of your kids you will need 2-3 strollers and getting them on and off buses will drive you mad. Pushing them around CBR will be fine. Your kids will love CBR and all it offers and are a bit too young to fully enjoy FW.

The other big complaint about CBR is the buses we have stayed here nearly three weeks (including over xmas) and we have no complaints. Request Jamaica and you get the first bus stop for most parks, both coming and going.

Camping is a lot of fun, but I think it would be more fun when your kids are just a little older and can enjoy the fun of it. CBR has a great splash area for all your kids, a zero entry pool, good playground, lovely food court.

We love FW and the cabins we wouldn't stay anywhere else but we always rent a golf cart...some people say they don't mind the internal bus system but for us it is a must. It is quiet and perfect for coming back from a busy day at the parks. My brother in law and his wife stayed at CB last month and they liked the atmosphere of it so either would be good but I agree with the PP who mentioned to go to the camping boards on here because they really know all there is to know about RVing at FW. Have a nice trip whatever you decide.
