Does anyone know when the Trailers at Ft. Wilderness were replaced with the current log cabins? We're having a light-hearted family disagreement. :rolleyes1

I stayed there as a child and remember things one way, my father remembers something different. Anyone know what was there in 1985-1986?

Thanks! ;)

I think around 1997 Wilderness Homes (trailers) were begun to be replaced with the cabins we know today.

Thanks. I guess my father was correct. I seem to recall them being cabins (like they are now) but he insisted it was more like a mobile home. The set up is nearly identical so I think that's why my memory is foggy.

THanks again!

I think, having stayed in both that the new ones were just newer with log looking exteriors. We have enjoyed staying in both, but we just use our own trailer with wheels..

This is from www.wdwig.com a website that became all ears.

What are the Fort Wilderness Cabins like and what are the rates?

The 1999 rates for Wilderness Cabins can be found by clicking here. Fort Wilderness is in the process of replacing the old Wilderness Homes with new manufactured homes called Cabins. The Wilderness Cabins (WC) (via Disney.com) are about the same size as the old Homes with essentially the same layout. The major differences are that the new Cabins come with a wood deck on the outside, a second television, a VCR and a dining table that seats six. The new Cabins also feature a safe, hairdryer, iron, ironing board and portable crib. All Cabins come with a fully equipped kitchen, including microwave, dishwasher and coffee maker, a full bathroom and a separate vanity in the bedroom and a living room with sofa and color television. For a complete kitchen inventory click here. The new Cabins also have "enhanced wilderness theming" which includes furniture that appears to be made from branches and a log cabin-like veneer exterior. Also, all Cabins come equipped with bunk beds in the bedroom in addition to the double bed, and therefore, will all sleep 6 persons. The Homes on loops 2700, 2800 and part of loop 2500 will not be immediately replaced as they are still under lease agreements with the Fleetwood company. Plans are to change these out by spring or summer of 2000. None of the Wilderness Cabins are set up to be handicap accessible.

The old Wilderness homes are at a retirement community somewhere near by.

Thanks everyone. I think since the layout was nearly identical and I was only 12 the last time I was there, I seem to remember them being the same. My Dad said he remembered them as more mobile homes, not cabins. Looks like he was right. I found a picture of the "homes" and I think he's right. Once I saw the pic they did look familiar.
