Remember when...

- FW used trams as internal transporation - when we were kids we would hop on the tram and just ride around the campground
- You could take a launch from FW to the Poly
- There was a train ride around the campground
- You could swim in the lake

I remember there being some sort of nature trail but I am not sure if it is still there.

Do they still rent canoes/paddle boats to use on the FW waterways or has that stopped?

Love the tram and it was great to take a dip in a spring fed Bay Lake and ahhhh, the train. All these are truly Fort history now. However the Wilderness Nature trail is still there. But after the 2004 hurricanes and lack of maintenance, it's a true adventure now. Here's the entrance to the trail just past the cabin on Bay Lake.

I remember swimming in the lake. We were there several time when I was a kid, and then we took my 2 DD's when they were small. I have a pic of them in the lake with my dad., I think it was in 1990. ;) What year did they stop letting guest swim in the lake?

It was the year that the bacteria from the water ate that kids skin off of his body...he jumped in with a body full of skin, and when he came out he was just bone & muscle....all the skin had melted off his body...its true...I read about it on Wikipedia, and it was confirmed by a site maintenance guy as well as a bus driver...so thats as solid as a rock!!!

On a serious note, there is an outside chance someone swimming in warm lake water can run into an amoeba which is quite horrible. It enters through the nose and heads to the brain. Here is a TRUE link.

WDW might have wanted to avoid any chances of this dreadful situation. Also, there are gators in Bay lake as well that people insist on FEEDING making them a potential hazard.

Just a thought. Have you heard about the pool????:rolleyes1

I remember and really miss being able to walk to River Country, that was my all time favorite Disney waterpark. I hope that one day they will bring back good ol' River Country, but I know that is just wishful thinking.

I think it has been sitting empty for way too long. I have always thought they should have at least left the River Country pool open for FW guests.

I seem to recall a horse drawn wagon which sold fresh fruit/veggies would make its way through the campground. also miss the "open-air" trams.

And my reliable source, the garbage man, confirmed it. :thumbsup2
