Does anybody know where I can find a map of Fort Wilderness? The DIS has maps of all the resorts EXCEPT Fort Wilderness.

We're one of the lucky ones who got upgraded with the closure of POFQ - we're now staying at Wilderness Lodge. I was hoping to walk over to Fort Wilderness one night to catch the campfire/movie with Chip & Dale and I was wondering how far of a walk it is. From the things I've seen about Wilderness Lodge, Fort Wilderness is only about 1 mile, but that's the part of FW near the lake. If the campfire is at the other end, we're looking at quite a hike.

Or can we take the internal FW buses to get to the campfire?

Thanks for your help!

It was a bit of a hike to the campfire from the boat dock at WL. We did not walk it and took the internal bus. I don't think it would have been doable for us to walk-dark and then the distance.

You can catch a bus to the campfire once you get to FW.

Hi!That would be a little bit of a hike to the Campfire. After a long day at the parks I would suggest the bus.Someone more bus route savy can better help you then me.Jump over to the Camping Board there are a lot of experienced FW people over there.

Hi Amy. Saw your post over at the Lodge thread -- congratulations! We are going to OKW on points this June but have a cash night first at the Lodge (1 night I could afford, lol). It's our first time too and I am SO excited.

I have the scoop on Ft. Wilderness. If you take the boat or the walking path, you will be in the main area where the restaurant is, and one Trading Post. This area is roped off and is for walking only -- no cars or buses. Nearby is a main bus stop. These buses can take you to the campfire area, which is near the main pool and the second Trading Post (store). I do think you could walk to the area from the boat dock. If you walked from the Lodge your kids would probably be pooped out and you'd want the bus. You can ask the busdriver if he goes to the Meadows Trading Post and the campfire. If the bus is going directly the ride will only be a few minutes.

Also, are you aware of the "bike and boat" plan? We are considering it for our June trip. For $200 you have unlimited use of rental bikes and boats from the marina you choose -- yours would be Wilderness Lodge. If you are staying more than a couple of days, this will be a deal given what the boats and bikes rent for per hour. This covers up to 5 people for the length of your stay. My kids LOVE the boats and could run up a $200 bill in a day!

Have fun!

The boats also travel between FW WL and MK. The boat would be another way to get from WL to FW and then walk or take the internal bus.

This is kind of hard to read, but here goes:

The campfire is located right in the heart of FW, and you can take any internal bus (which ever comes first to Pioneer Hall). Either get off at the Meadows, or at loop 600 (Big Bear, Litle Bear) and walk to the campfire area.

Be careful with the internal busses, as they just changed the routes!! The link I gave earlier shows them. There are now THREE bus routes, and I don't think the purple one goes very close to the meadows area.

From Wilderness Lodge, board the bus marked FORT WILDERNESS at stop number one. That bus turns into an Orange route FW internal bus, which is the color you want for the Campfire program. Just speak with the driver, and he or she will assist you as to when to get off. To get back to WL, just board a bus marked SETTLEMENT ORANGE. That bus will go to WL.

Thanks so much for all of your help! Colleen, I didn't know about the bike and boat plan. I know DH will want to rent some kind of boat for the lake, and I'm always up for a bike ride. I'll have to see how much free time we have and add up rental costs to see if it's worth it.
