Has anyone camped at Fort Wilderness over New Years? Whats it like it it extremly crowded. I was thinking about going next year over New Years. I wouldn.t need to go to any of the parks, just check some of the resorts and down town disney. I'm sure it would be a fun place to bring in the New Year. If anyone has been there over New Years please let me know.
Thanks!

bump bump Anybody back from New Years at the Fort?

we were in the fort from 12/25 til1/1 and were fortunate to get a cabin in the 100 loop it really saved alot of travel time ,almost did not need a golf cart,it was mobbed every were we went ,trails end had60 to 90minute waits ,we were glad we did the 90 day resv.thing otherwise you could not eat at a sit down anyware, the magic kingdom was full by 11am ,epcot saw almost 80,000 people new years eve day.there wasnt room to change your mind,we saw the7:40 fire works and left to watch the magic kingdom fire works from the beach at the fort.the fast pass rides were up to two hr. waits for standby, fast passes were gone for the day by 11 or 12 oclock, would i go again on christmas week ?,never,I do have to say that disney did a great job with there transportation, food and food lines.going back1/8 to 3/10 looking forward to the lower crowds,we were on the dining plan and felt that because of the 18% grat. we were treated diffrently in some of the sit downs i.e.prime time 50s

We just got back, as Corvette says the beach was very busy on new years eve but quite pleasant. You definetly needed to bring your own chair.

The dining plan has changed the dining scene everywhere at WDW. not as big a problem for us since we were in our travel trailer. It does make any spontaneous dining out of the question.

It was very good. More crowded than last year though. There were fewer Christmas Decorations but still several. The fireworks were great.

It is sad to continue to see the cutbacks...Christmas Decorations were fewer, no swamp trail, no real petting zoo like there once was, big pool not heated much, River Country is gone, Discovery Island gone, no train, no peacocks roaming free, no snack bar open at the big pool...etc. It is still a great place but makes you long for what it once was. With the big crowds I guess they feel they don't need to offer much to keep people coming.

The cutback on decorations was noticeable from our last trip in 05.
The snack bar not opening at the Meadows pool was surprising, not sure why they didnt open it unless sales were really slow.
We did notice a decline in the cleanliness also. The bathroom at the Meadows pool were filthy and the floor was in dire need of cleaning. The comfort station in 1400 loop was nasty until Jan 1st when they scrubbed it from top to bottom, only after that did it look like it should have, unfortunately that was the last night of our 11. There seemed to be a cast member doing something in there a couple of times a day, to say he was cleaning would be generous.

Thanks for your replies!! Would you go back the same time next year (over New Years).

My bride made the reservations for New Years 2007 and thins doesn't sound too good...:scared1:

I'm not much of a crowd person and can get claustrophobia under certain circumstances. and this makes me wonder if we did the right thing.

Any other input?

Thanks.

We weren't there for New Years, but we were for most of Christmas week. We arrived on 12/18, and left on 12/30. The crowds picked up NOTICABLY on 12/24 and seemed to continue to grow by the time we left. There were several days after Christmas that I understand the parks closed to capacity. That said, we really didn't let the crowd thing get to us. We did a LOT of planning, arrived at the parks at rope drop, and got the heck out right after lunch. We only went back to the parks for a few evenings - and then for planned dinners and/or shows/parades/fireworks.

The Fort did seem to be at capacity - we had a golf cart and only noticed a few empty sites in the whole place when we would spend our afternoons on our favorite ride (golf cart at the Fort). The largest amount of empty sites seemed to be in the partial hookup loops.

We were on the 400 loop, and our bathroom was spotless every time I went there - and all 5 of my family used it daily to shower. The laundry rooms were spotless as well.

I would definitely go back for Christmas again (and plan to in '08), but only with sufficient planning. I really felt sorry for all the poor souls wandering around looking overwhelmed by the crowds!:santa:

I'm still thinking of New Years Too! I'm not much on crowds either but I think I would go and not do the parks. The resorts would be fun to visit. I'm usally asleep by midnight so the excitment of hanging around the beach see the fireworks maybe I could make it to midnight:rotfl: , who know I might risk going to Pleasure Island where I heard that it was alot of fun!! Aleast I would not have to worry about driving. I sure would like to hear more about New Years at the Fort Before I make a desicion.

Sakes alive, you're OLD!!!

We'll be at FW and the beach is a option. I can seriously be a night owl and still get up and boogie at dawn. The Bride won't.

Kinda off topic, I have been in a kayak off shore during 4th of July fireworks and enjoying the heck out of it.

Back on topic, I'm looking forward to the trip. Pleasure island is not an option for me as the crowds will be too large for me. I read somewhere that one poster rented a pontoon boat with a captain for the fireworks and I'll look into that.

The beach was not really crowded as you could find your own space without being anywhere near to being shoulder to shoulder. There was a "crowd" compared to a regular night.
