Anyone been to Mickeys Backyard BBQ or Hoop De Doo at Fort Wilderness? If so which do you recommend? We have a 6, 5 and 2 yr old. :earboy2:

I've been to both. The Backyard Bar-b-q is fun, with a lot of interaction with characters, but there is a lot of line dancing for the grownups that I think would bore the smaller kids. Mine were 6 and 8 when we went. They enjoyed it and we got lots of pictures. Food was good.

Hoop de doo is a great meal and a fun show. It is interactive and the actors are great. Lot's of loud fun to keep small kids happy.

Hope that helps some. I've seen Hoop de doo like 5 times because my inlaws love it. Twice is enough, but I still enjoy it every time.

I think there are a few months that they don't do mickey's BBQ you might wanna check the schedule on that.

Also have been to both and easily prefer the HDMR. We just did it again during our last trip two weeks ago. My children are 6 & 7 and they both really enjoyed it. Also, if your children do not like ribs or fried chicken, be sure to tell your waitress/waiter right away and they will bring out a hot dog or chicken nuggets. They do not offer this information, you have to ask them.

We've been to both and while we enjoyed the BBQ, we like HDD better. In fact, we're getting set to make reservations for our 8th trip to the HDD next June.

I have not done the BBQ, but we just returned from our trip and we did the HDDR and my kids LOVED it! My kids are 5 and 4 and the absolute highlight of the trip for me was seeing how much fun my kids had laughing at the HDDR. My 4 yr old was whooping and hollering and had the time of his life there. After that though, he thought he should twirl his napkin in the air anytime he liked something at a restaurant. :rolleyes1 I highly recommend it.

Wah Hoo (stomp-stomp) HOOP DE DOO!

Sorry that we made you wait, but you know the coach was late.

Oh they come from old New York, they don't need a knife and fork.

Bear Left!

Now, Pick up BOTH sides.

Dreadful sorry, Frankenstein.

Hey, he's on MY side! Not no MORE, he ain't!

We have done both and the younger set def. prefer HDDR. They had an absolute riot and the food was pretty decent to boot.

Great stage show though.. at least I think so. I have not gone for quite a few years, but remember thinking it was hilarious. I am sure they must have updated it a bit, I remember thinking the food was ok.....

But, man, $50 per PERSON!? :earseek:

I agree its a downright bargain, but I'm sure you could pay more if you like. :rotfl2:

Nope.
It's still the same old Hoop!
Its "locked in time".

(Minus a couple of harmless Indian jokes.
PC, you know.)

Okey-DOKEY-Um!

OK - we did both last trip (me, DH, DD4, DD5, GM, GF).

We all LOVED the BBQ!!! I mean, LOVED it! The girls had the best time dancing for hours with the characaters, many times one-on-one. GM and GF enjoyed the wine coolers. I am sooooo dissapointed to miss it during our Jan. trip.

If you do go, arrive 45 min. early. Not only is seating first-come (and close to the dance floor is the most fun), but they have pre-show activities with the Characters for the kids. For the first 30 minutes, there were only 10-15 kids there, with five characters, so DD's got to play duck-duck-goose and other games literally holding hands with Minnie! BTW, you do not need tickets for these pre-show activities (they take place on the lawn), so anyone could stop by for some free fun. Also, we are not country music fans but still had a blast, and the food is exactly the same as HDMR, but with an expanded selection of sides, desserts, beverages etc.

NOW - as for the HDMR. We loved the food, HATED the show. Did not laugh once. The kids did not laugh once. At all. And we are a fun-lovin' crowd. I think just maybe, hokey, contrived humor may not be for us ("and that's....ok").
Or, maybe they just need to serve wine coolers at the HDMR as well.

AND NOW, photographic evidence of how little fun we had at HDMR (lol - GF is like "please leave me alone...!):

I've been to both, and I vote BBQ....the kids get to dance, as well as the adults, autographs are scheduled times, and the food is good....hdvr was okay, but more interaction with everyone at the BBQ...my choice but may not be yours...have fun
