Fort Wilderness DVC: Rumour confirmed?!

Hope you're right!:goodvibes I was much more excited about this than GFV. Hopefully more details will come out in the near future. Thanks for posting.

Interesting! So ... will the Ft. Wilderness units be to VWL as the Treehouse units are to SSR?

Imagine what points will cost or the points required per night. That is one expensive project.

We can only hope! Though I'd be surprised if they move too quickly on this with GF being built and around 20% of AKV left to sell.

Me too!
I'd love a Ft. Wilderness DVC. GF-not so much.

If there is the rumored water park, I'm in. If it is the same as WL, the expiration dates won't match, which would be weird. I guess anything is possible though.

Yes this is way cooler to me than GF! .. but Poly would make higher on my list than GF too. .. if they added hot tubs :)

What is the pavilion that is in the plans going to be used for??

Does the closure of HDDR for a few months go along with any construction timelines?

I must be missing something.

Isn't this just an expansion to the VWL?

I don't see the new draw to buy here. I can always book the VWL at the 7 month window.

I posted my same question in the Proof The Rumors Are True!!! TCD Relocation Plans! Thread in the DIS camping forum, They have been following this with great interest and are great scouts! Bama_Ed posted a wonderful summary...

Lisa,

In a nutshell,

1. A new pavilion would be built for Mickey's Backyard BBQ behind the Settlement Trading Post along the lake near the 100 and 200 loops.

2. The Tri-Circle-D horse barn, blacksmithing shop, etc. would be relocated up to the Outpost (check-in) area of the Fort where the Trail Ride horses and corrals are. (I guess this would take out the Pony ride area and petting zoo animals.)

3. In the drawings released so far, Pioneer Hall and Trail's End buildings (including HDDR) appear unchanged (but I bet that is subject to review).

4. Behind PH and TE replacing the BBQ Pavilion, Barn, and River Country area, the drawings show buildings arranged in an arc, some overhanging the current shoreline. No indication how many stories tall they are.

5. Soil sampling and ground compaction tests have been done to determine the makeup of the soil in the new building areas

6. The permit referred to in the link above is at the old STOL airstrip which is parallel to World Drive between the MK Toll Booth and the TTC.

7. The same STOL airstrip was permitted last year to allow for some paving and setting up of construction trailers for the Grand Floridian DVC job currently underway. (Anytime dirt is going to be covered over with pavement a permit has to be filed which is where this stuff usually is then discovered).

I'd kinda be surprised if they started on a FW project so soon after starting the GF DVC project but you never know.

I hope so as well! I can see us adding on points for that DVC!

Us too! :thumbsup2

Really? Even in December?

I don't think it will be quite like that. First of all, new construction allows the possibility of rooms that sleep 5 or 9. They could do a sleeper chair, like BLT or AKV, or a Murphy bed, like VGC. FW cabins have Murphy beds already, so it isn't too much of a stretch.

The other thing that has been talked about on the camping board is whether or not DVC at FW would mean adding a CS option, something that the Fort does not truly have (poolside and Trail's End Takeaway are not the same as a CS restaurant, IMHO). Of course, the argument that DVC people with Villas don't use CS is the same argument as FW people in motorhomes or cabins don't use CS either.

Thank you for this update!

This would not be an expansion to VWL, but rather a new DVC resort built 'within' Ft Wilderness campground. In my experience, VWL and Ft W are alike only in that they share a rustic feel. They're very different, and I expect the Ft W villas would be built to reflect the fort and it's charm more than anything else.

I can't speak on the 7 month window availability - it really depends on what they do with the place and how much it appeals to members around the holidays.

I'd be excited to try the FtW villas out if/when they're built - but at the sky-high prices for points, I doubt I'd be buying points direct from Disney unless there were some killer incentives.

I doubt it. VWL has a 2042 expiration. They will want to sell new points with a later expiration. If you are paying top dollar to have it as a home resort, it wouldn't be fair to have VWL owners counted as a home resort.

Keep in mind that a project this size requires significant time and effort to build. It took 2 years to build BTL, and that was on land that already had infrastructure (power, sewer, water, etc). This is a whole new development. They need to lay infrastructure (sewer, water, power, etc). Plus they will need to prep the land. To have this completed and ready for sale in time to replace AKV as the next major resort means they need to start now.

Ah - excellent point! Thx!

Do you think it will be individual units like the cabin? Or a resort like building similar to the other DVC resorts?

There were some partial plans floating around a year or so ago, that was an arc of building containing 6-8 2 bedroom equilivants (AKA AKV) that was along and jutted out from the shore line next to pioneer hall. The plan is cut off so we don't know the full extent and how high the building will be.
