I will be going in May along with 11 other members of my family, 6 of which are children 10 and under, one of those is a 7 yr old Autistic nephew. I got AP rates for 3 Fort Wilderness cabins. I am a little worried about getting around. How far is it from the cabins to the pool? Also, I have seen the pools are very plain will my other nieces/nephews be disappointed? We are only going for 5 days including travel. Would I be better off at another resort closer to the parks? How long does it take to get to Magic Kingdom from FW? Are there refillable mugs and how far is the restaurant or food court? I am hoping that a home type situation will be better for my nephew -especially if he has room to run. Plus I like that there is a seperate bedroom so he can go to sleep while others are watching TV. I am hoping there is a door to the bedroom. The kitchen will also make his special diet easier. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks for any answers to my many questions!

The distance from the cabins to the pool depends on which loop you get. Take a look at one of the many resort maps out there on the web. The closest loops to the 2nd pool is 2500 and 2600. Those are pretty easy walking distance.

The pools are plain in comparison to other pools in the Resort. I don't think the kids would mind too much. Mine didn't mind as much as I did. If they have a real problem with it, there is always a water park.

I recommend Fort Wilderness to anyone, really. The buses aren't too bad, IMO. It is good to have your own car or golf cart, however.

In my experience, it takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to get from my cabin door to the turnstiles at MK via first, internal bus, then second, boat. We never took internal and external buses to MK.

There is a separate bedroom! It's a great help with kids that need naps.

Take a look at home.hiwaay.net/~jlspence that has the definitive Fort Wilderness FAQ.

Good luck and have a great trip!

We stayed at FW Cabins the first 3 of our family trips. We found them very convienent with our then young son. So much so, that we are taking the Grandchildren in Dec. & staying there again.
The pools are not themed, which didn't matter to us because we had never seen anyof the other pools on property. Not only that, but you're only there for 5 days, would you have much pool time? We visited the water parks with him for the mega-pool fix.
We found the trip to MK to be really quick & easy - I'd say 1/2 hour. I love the ferry ride across Bay Lake.... going thru the canal by the Contemporary into the Seven Seas Lagoon is one of my favorite Disney Moments!

I think FWC are an overlooked gem of WDW.
