While I've read some about the cabins I was wondering if anyone has stayed there recently? I would appreciate any feedback. We love to camp but have no intention of taking the smallest camper known to man for a 2 day ride south :rotfl: What I'm looking for is the good parts about camping while being as comfy as possible. Thanks for any info.

We just got back from a stay in a cabin on May 28 and loved it! We definitely are planning to return, as soon as possible. I'll be glad to answer any specific questions you have. In a nutshell, it is bigger than what we are used to (Poly Concierge), much less expensive even including the cost of the golf cart, and just a very pleasant place to stay.

Post or PM me if you have any specific questions. I'll be posting a trip report in the next few days and I'll definitely be posting a link on the Camping Board so if you're interested, keep an eye open over there.

I stayed in one a few years ago, and I loved it!!

Although...a golf cart is a must in my opinion. Too fun to go without. :goodvibes

How does the cart rental work? Do you just leave it at the dock or bus stop and pick it up later? Or doesn't it matter, you get a key when you rent one and it works with any cart, and you just take one from the parking area? Or will i have to take the long walk to recover the cart. And I know it will be me since Dad's always have to do the grunt work!

You can rent by the day or by the week (if I remember correctly) Once you rent it you can leave it parked in the driveway of your cabin.

We love the cabins, we requested a loop near the settlement depot and that eliminated a need for a cart. We simply walked but it can be a long walk if you are in one of the loops further away.

The GC are easy and fun. When going to either the Outpost bus stop or to the boat dock, you just park it in the golf cart parking area and pick it back up when you get back. You are assigned a specific cart, so you're supposed to get that particular one, although I hear that the keys fit them all and that occasionally someone will grab the wrong one by accident. We had a sign posted in our winshield which identified our as being ours so we didn't have any trouble with someone getting it by accident.

The only time I had to walk any distance at all the whole time we were there was when I picked up and dropped off the golf cart - I just walked there from our cabin. I could have taken a bus but it was more fun walking. Otherwise, we did very little if any walking within FW.

Thanks for the info! One last thing, though. It looks like they seat only four folks, two in the front, two in the back. Are there GC's for more than four?

We stayed at FW cabins this trip. We will definitely be doing so again. Here is my trip report http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1834238

We loved the peace and quiet. We loved the atmosphere. We loved going to the campfire. We loved having a full size kitchen. (saved lots of $$ by having a few meals here.) Tons of towel animals every day!! We have stayed at various WDW resorts over the years: value, moderate, and deluxe. FW cabin is our new favorite!!

:dance3:

They only have the one size (four person) cart, but honestly, it can hold more than 4 depending on how big your people are. At one point we had 3 adults and 4 kids on it and still got there, although it was a little :crowded: .

Have fun!

We are doing our first Ft. W trip in September. Got reservations for the cart and Hoop-De-Doo! Kids and the grandmother are excited. Thinking back when I was a kid, I liked a "cabin" over a "hotel room."

The campground is sooooooooooooooooooo much fun!!! I LOVE it. The only BAD thing I noticed about the cabins was the dust....it was really thick. Especially in the bathroom. The wooden beams in the ceiling collect it like crazy so if you have allergy problems make sure you have meds with you! Other than that they are a blast! Have a fun trip!

We just returned from a visit to the cabins last week and after five days in a two bedroom at Old Key West the cabins seemed tiny (we are a family of six); however, we loved them anyway. It took a couple of days to figure out the bus system, but the staff was great. My absolute favorites were the head of housekeeping and the concierge. If my husband hadn't gotten sick we would have gone canoeing and fishing but unfortunately ran out of time. My kids loved it!

Holy, you guys are awesome! Thanks so much for all of the great info. I really appreciate it. One question....how much did the golf cart cost a week? Also, do you have to make a reservation for one or can you just get one when you get there?

They are about $50 per day, and you should call ahead for reservations, as they go quickly! Call the Bike Barn at 407 824-2742.

We stayed in a cabin for one night before moving to WL for the week. Don't get me wrong, WL is BEAUTIFUL and a wonderful resort, but we, along with our friends who stayed in the cabin with us, LOVE the idea of getting a cabin for an entire trip! They are so cute and fun and you really feel transported to another location. Having a kitchen was awesome and I thought the use of space in the cabin was very well-planned - I loved the huge roomy bathroom!!

How many TVs are in the cabins? Are the bugs more prevalent in Fort Wilderness than other areas of WDW Resort? Considering a quick trip over the summer to FW and staying in the cabins.

TV in the livingroom and one back in the bedroom. I didn't see any bugs. We were there in December right before Christmas though. I would imagine the mosquitoes are bad in the Summer.

We were there a couple of weeks ago. I took bugspray with us, but we didn't use it once.
