Fort Wilderness Cabin

We also really enjoyed the cabins, but would never stay there without a car. We also rented a golf cart which the kids liked better that any of the rides at the parks...........

Whether or not you will like the cabins depends on what you like on vacation. If you want a little night life, a littel people watching, etc., then I wouldn't think the cabins would be for you. Also, now that the kids are a little older, the hubby and I like to go out at night for a little adult time, and that would be very difficult at Fort Wilderness.

When the kids were younger they did enjoy the campfire program and making s'mores.

We would stay there again, but at this stage in our lives, I don't think it would be our first choice.

We stayed in the cabins twice. We thought the busses were no big deal. My two year old loved to yell "purple bus" every time we boarded one. I found the resort to be peaceful and relaxing. I loved the ability to grill. We never used the car even though we had one both times.

Check out site www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_fw.htm for good info. there are three internal bus routes in Fort Wilderness orange and yellow for the campsites and purple for the cabins. The buses run from the Outpost where you check in and the bus stop for the buses to Epcot,Hollywood Studios,Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney and the water parks, to the Settlement where you catch the boat to Magic Kingdom or go to the petting zoo, Hoop Dee Doo, Trails End Buffet, or the Trading Post. The purple cabin and the yellow and orange campsite buses also stop at the Meadows trading post, pool and campfire program.

We have stayed at many WDW resorts, and FW is one of our favorites! We stayed in a cabin, and very much enjoyed the extra space. We had a rental car, however, did use the bus and/or boat to go to the MK. A big advantage to having a car is that you can park it right by your cabin! When you return from the parks by car, there is no long walk from the parking lot. Literally it is only a few steps to the cabin's deck, and front door. :goodvibes Do you need a car - no. Does it make trips anywhere on property faster(except MK) - yes.

When our kids were younger we loved the cabins (dubbed "Loggins" by DD). Having the full kitchen and seperate sleeping spaces were real plusses, as was the grill/patio and front door parking. We always had a rental car and found it much more efficient for most travel compared to the busses. The golf carts are a great way to get around the resort but are very expensive. We tried to plan our trip for maybe 2 or 3 days that we would use the cart, MK days and maybe a resort day or HDDR night, and only rent the cart for those days. It's easier to keep the rental days together because you have to return the cart in the afternoon, during Bike Barn hours.

We are going in september, we have never stayed there before.
After reading these post I made a reservation for a golf cart.
The map shows a pretty big gap between cabins and resort hot spots and we have a 3 and 4 (will be 5) year old and I thought w/ the park walking I would be expecting to much from little legs.
However, I have only been to wdw once before (por) and I do not understand why a rental car would be needed to get around?
Can anyone fill me in?
Does the fw external bus stop at alot of others resorts prolonging delivery to parks?

Do you need a rental car - No. Is it faster with a rental car to get to the parks (except MK)-yes.

From your cabin/RV/tent site you will take the "Internal" FW bus to to the Settlement Depot. The Internal bus simply drives around FW. From the Settlement Depot you will take another bus directly to a park. If you're going to the MK you will take the Internal bus to the Outpost, and then catch the boat to the MK.
