Well, Im on my way to planning my Boys Trip in June to WDW (my DSs are 8 & 10). :cool1:

I had posted this under the accomidations section, but someone told me to move it here because this is the section for all Fort Wilderness questions, so here goes:

I have a couple of questions that I hope you guys/gals can help me with.

First of all, i heard that the transportation at FW isn't so great, Going from the cabin to an internal bus and then to a park bus or boat. I read it can be a mile walk  , is this true? I was thinking of renting a jeep for our 5 night stay, has anyone used these jeeps and how far in advance do I need to rent one?

Also, The usual question of, what loop or cabin number would be the best to request?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Nathan

You can rent a golf cart at FW. I have read there around $44.00 a day. Cars and other vehicles are not allowed as transporation in FW, the Meadows Trading Post does have space for about 4 cars. There is no place to park them except at your site. We personally have never had a problem with disney transporattion unless you are in a real hurry.

The transportation inside FW is not really all that bad. If someone is really concerned about waiting for busses, the best thing to do is have a car. As the AP said, you couldn't use it to get around within the campground, but you can drive in and out to go to the parks.

Other than that, you can get a golf cart, or just use the busses. There are bus stops at every loop all over the campground. They are color-coded according to which road they take, but they all eventually end up at one end of FW or the other (and yes, it's basically a mile from the entrance of FW to the marina/boat launch end).

As for getting around outside FW, I've heard of a lot of folks who take the boat over to MK and then go from there (via monorail or other park bus).

I guess those of us who really love The Fort aren't bothered too much by the means of getting around! Camping is a slower pace, anyway! Enjoy!!:goodvibes

p.s. sorry can't help with cabin question -we've only stayed at campsites!

If you don't want to do a lot of walking in the campground and don't want to rent a golf cart, just request a cabin at the beginning or end of the loop. I have had some in the middle of the loop and getting off that bus after extra magic hours, that cabin did seem like miles away. Busses run every 10 minutes or so so there is no long wait. Have a great trip!

Renting a cart makes it easier, but not needed. Boats and buses run all the time to and from, never really a hassle.
