During the last couple weeks some things have been said about the fort that people wondered about or talked negative about.

I talked to a cm that was setting up some tents for a group at the group camping area and he said forget River Country. He said the ribar under the mountains is too rusty and FW will never spend the $$ to fix it.

We walked thru the swamp trail today and it seems to be coming out piece by piece. The posts that used to hang the rope handrailing have been cut off and the planks are messed up as well. I went a good ways back and it's a mess sorry to say. If you know where the lock is that separates Bay Lake from the water that is in the campground lakes there was a huge pump, pumping the water from the campground to Bay Lake. I saw a cm back there and he said the reason it was being pumped was because the boats are hitting bottom (or close) at the docks. (I'm no genius but instead of draining the lakes and making it almost impossible to canoe at FW because now it's to shallow couldn't you just dredge the areas by the dock?) I'm sure the Dept. of Environmental Protection would have to issue a permit to do so it would be possible.

We then went over to Trails End and had lunch which IMO wasn't bad. I've eaten there before and never been bad really. I mean I don't crave it and run straight down there when we arrive on our stays but it was by no means bad food. The salad bar was very fresh and the buffet was clean and nicely set up. The only thing I could say negative was the pulled pork (most likely the meat pulled from last nights ribs at the HDDR and TE) was nice meat on top but there was a lot of grease on the bottom of the pan. The soup (Clam Chowder) was good too. The service was iffy. Our waitress didn't seem to be thrilled to be there today, but I will chalk it up to just that, maybe a bad day.

Our trip was fine and enjoyable. I know some people have not been satisfied lately and I can understand some of the complaints. It seems when FW offered River Country and the swamp trail maybe that was a time when they were wooing campers to come there and now it's so hard to get a ressie they don't need those ammenities. It's still a great place to stay and I'm looking forward to a few more trips this year.

Thank you for the report. I am getting ready to go for the first time so I never got to experience River Country or the swamp trail. I feel like I am missing out on something though.:sad2:

I forgot to mention that one morning we got cinnamon rolls to go from TE. They were delicious heated up in the mic. I was going to get a couple yesterday but a lady had just come in and bought them all. Oh well maybe next trip. I was surprised at the freshness of the food because it's been a while since we dined at TE. The whole place was immaculate. No cob webs as one poster said. I would love to see FW change the menu some and add a different dish here and there.
