Fort Myers area advice?

Hi all,

Am a very disappointed Red Sox fan and in my misery thought it might be fun to take the boys (ages 12 and 14) to Spring Training (Ft Myers) next March. I think Vero is too far a drive - any suggestions on good places to stay in that area (within 1/2 hour drive of Ft Myers?) Prefer beach location - I do not have to use DVC points so all options are open.

Appreciate any advice!

I understand your pain and even though this is not the right place for this question, I'll offer some advice before moving it to the CB for you.

You might consider Sanibel Island- a short drive from Ft. Myers and a great vacation spot. The Sundial is nice family resort.

Hi, Boardwalk III. First of all, my condolences to you and all Red Sox fans. I was rooting for the Red Sox and the Cubs to make it to the World Series.

Speaking of misery for baseball fans, I'm a season ticket holder to the Detroit Tigers. This year was hideous.

Anyway, about Ft. Myers. I love to stay down on Ft. Myers Beach. I've usually stayed at the Sandpiper Resort, which is right on the gulf. It's a small but very nice resort. There are lots of other great places along the beach there, depending on your price range. I'd suggest you stay away from the causeway/pier/"Times Square" area of the island. That part is overrun by the spring break crowd at that time of year. Other places you could check would be the Outrigger or Holiday Inn, both of which are also gulffront.

Hi Boardwalk III:

Greetings from Ft. Myers, spring training home of the Boston Red Sox! The Sundial is a wonderful resort so is the Sandpiper. I also suggest the Pink Shell on Ft. Myers Beach. Also there is a great Holiday Inn on Sanibel with a really neat resturant. Let me know if I can provide any other information.

After such a devastating loss in Game 7, I can't believe I'm coming back for more! A true Sox fan I guess - now my poor kids have to share this burden too
