I might plan a trip to fort Meyers the end of February. We'd like to see the area plus we'd like to catch spring training. Any help would be appreciated. We've never been there before so we have no idea where to stay, what to do or where to eat. Is spring training near the beach? We like to stay at places where we can walk most places. A resort area would be nice if it's not crazy money. Thank you in advance.

My parents live in Naples but I have no idea where you would stay in Fort Myers. My dad has had Twins spring training tickets I believe since the twins moved to Fort Myers. The Red Sox are also there. No clue about distance to the beach.

First off, there is Ft. Myers and then there is Ft. Meyers Beach. Spring training is going to take place in Ft. Myers, which is not far from Ft. Myers Beach, but you would need ta car to get there. I was at Ft. Myers Beach a few years ago and we rented a house on the beach. It was summer and it was great. For Spring, I am not sure what would be best for you, depending on what you wanted to do. Lots of rentals and hotels on the beach, in town there is probably the same. We flew into Orlando and drove down there, but you have options of Tampa, Orlando, Ft. Myers, even Ft. Lauderdale if you are flying in. Good Luck !

We will be going to Fort Myers area next week for Christmas break. We are flying into Ft. Lauderdale and staying there for two nights then spending a week in Fort Myers. We booked the Residence Inn Fort Myers Sanibel. It is near the bridge to Sanibel and .Captiva Island and a short drive to Fort Myers beach...only like 3 miles I think.

When I started looking for hotels, they were like $300-400 a night for on the beach which was way out of my price range. I picked the Residence Inn because it is like a 1 bedroom apartment. It has two queen beds in the bedroom with a separate living area with sofabed and kitchen. They offer free breakfast and have laundry facilities if you need them as well as a pool and hot tub. Si ce we are planning to explore a lot, it didn't matter as much to be on the beach. We are paying $163 a night.

One thing I noticed when we did a daytrip to Fort Myers beach last year from Ft. lauderdale was that it is VERY crowded. We were there in Feb. and traffic was crazy busy. The Times Square end also has construction going on so that is another reason I stayed away from the beach during Christmas and New Years.

If you are there primarily for Spring training, I would definitely book a hotel away from the beach. You can always drive there but will save a lot of money on the lodging.

Hope this helps!

It is 22 degrees here, so I am VERy excited to go!
