We are flying in/out of FLL for a January Dream cruise out of Miami and we don’t fly home until around 4pm on debarkation day so would like to go to a lounge in Terminal 3 to kill time. We fly out of Terminal 1 via Southwest though and in looking at FLLs maps I’m not sure if it’s possible to do this. Not sure if security will allow us in Terminal 3 if we are flying out of Terminal 1. Hoping someone might have some insight/experience on this. If the terminals were connected I wouldn’t worry but from what I can tell they are completely separate 🤷🏼‍♀️. Thank you!

All the terminals are completely separate buildings with their own TSA security checkpoints so there’s no way to go between the two. That said terminal one had an addition and is the newest part of the airport with the most shopping and dining options and a bit more room to spread out, especially if your flight departs from the new section.

We flew back from FLL last week and had a 10 hour wait for our flight home and learned a few things. The earliest you can check in with Southwest is 4 hours before your flight on Monday through Thursday (we were flying on Thursday). The third party baggage hold company in the baggage claim area is only open Friday through Sunday. Therefore we had to wait until 4:20 pm to check in for our flight and finally get past security and access the restaurants in terminal 1.

Dania point is a nice shopping/dining complex near FLL maybe go there for a bite to eat or see a movie. I know you will have your luggage but at least it will be a bit more fun than hanging out at the airport and it’s a 5-10 minute Uber drive to the airport.

That happened to us at MCO as well. We had to hangout outside of security until 4 hrs before our flight.
