My flight just changed and we'll be flying out of FLL instead of MIA after our Destiny cruise. It looks like we'll have 4-5 hours before the flight. I'm not familiar with the airport there. Is there anything to do at the airport besides having a meal and reading? I'm trying to decide if we should take the DCL transport to the airport and just hang out there or if we should attempt to lollygag somewhere else with our luggage.

Attempt to lollygag somewhere else with your luggage. FLL is pretty small and there's not much to do pre-security (or post-security, for that matter, though there are some shops/eateries). If you have checked bags the airline won't allow you to check more than 4 hours before your flight (at least with most standard US carriers).

Im a huge fan of spending the money on a day room or resort pass. Traveling home can make for a long day. A place to rest and recharge is amazing.

Honestly, try to switch back to Miami. We flew from FLL after the Destiny MV and it's not a great place. There is a sign saying if there are a lot of cruise ships they won't let you check your bags until 2 hours prior to flight. The terminal we were in had very little seating outside security and not much more once you are in the gate area. People were standing everywhere, Not much to choose from in food.

On the plus side, getting through security was quick and the proximity to the port means you could easily get a flight at 10am.

Will Disney transportation take you to Miami?

No DCL no longer does transportation to MIA
You can easily get transportation to Miami and probably cheaper that what Disney would charge. There are shuttles there to take you to either aiport and most ride shares will do the same. You would want an early afternoon flight, but might be a better experience with more flight options. I tried FLL and would probably avoid it in the future unless the flight was perfect timing.

Depends on if they need car seats, how many traveling, and what they feel comfortable with.

Also strange things can happen. For instance I almost missed a DCL sailing Dec 2022 because I was driving from Fort Lauderdale to Miami (DCL used to sail out of there) and a crane collapsed on the highway about three cars in front of me. Stuck for hours as they turned the entire highway around one car at a time. Traffic between FLL and MIA is no joke.

You can get a no frills day room for about $110 on Resort Pass for the Marriott. An Uber will cost $55 before tip (and more depending on size a surge pricing).
