During one evening just after Christmas my family and I were visiting Fort Wilderness. It was not quite the peaceful campground I remember (we have stayed there twice in the past). As we walked down Fort Wilderness Trail to view the Christmas lights, I began to notice the barking. I would guess that we heard at least four different dogs barking along our walk. The many dogs being walked on leashes or riding on electric carts that we walked past were well behaved, which was good. There was a dog riding on a cart with its family into the Settlement Trading Post area marked "No Pets Beyond This Point". The Fort seems to have taken on a distinctly canine ambience, which is not my cup of tea, but it is great for dogs and dog owners. Though dogs may not bark constantly at Fort Canine, during my visit barking was fairly regular and often enough that I'll have to cherise my memories of the quiet, peaceful Fort Wilderness of the past.

I always remember the peacocks screeching at the top of their lungs every morning and evening! I do miss the peacocks though. So, I guess there's always noise in a campground. I take the dog barking, along with all the other little noises that go in a campground -- people clanging pots and pans, kids running around and yelling, golf carts driving by, buses, Electrical Water Pageant floating by, fireworks, people talking, etc. Doesn't bother me a bit. (Unless of course, somebody leaves their barking dog alone all day long in their motorhome.) But, a little barking here and there is not a big deal to me. :)

Ditto!!!

We prefer to just relax and go with the flow! ;)

Same here.

Unless it is non-stop, middle of the night barking, we don't even notice it!

I guess you live in a neighborhood that is dog free. Even at home I hear the dogs that live around us barking! Chill-lax and enjoy! :cool2:

In an effort to make FW a noise free zone, Bobby has announced Disney's Noise Eradication Program, heretofor known as DNEP. First, no children, pets, golf carts or busses will be allowed on FW proper. Second, a mass extermination of all annoying wildlife will begin. Third, all boat whistles will be silenced, as will the the EWP and train whistles at MK. Fourth, fireworks will be replaced with LEDs. Fifth, horses will be outfitted with slippers so wagon and carriage rides may continue, since this is a good source of revenue for the Mouse. Finally, all CM's will only be allowed to communicate in American sign language, and guests will be provided with notepads and pens to allow communication. He is still working on how to eliminate that annoying breeze in the trees.

Whoa....:scared1: re-BOLD highlights are mine--- you have no idea if that was a Service Dog....regardless seems awful judgemental...peace & quiet is when they put you in the ground (maybe) till then live & let live or good luck finding a Noise free zone"

You know, the thing is, the OP wasn't even staying there.

I don't mind dogs, it's the owners I can't stand. When you have a dog, you should realize not everyone appreciates the smell, the slobber, the noise... of your little babies. There's a place for dogs, and there's place for people. Sooner or later there will be an unfortunate accident at the resort involving a dog in a place that was prohibited. You'll see it on the news and the first thing the owner will say is that doggie's never done that before and how sorry they are... And then that will be the end of dogs at FW. If you lve your dog so much, how can you leave it locked up in a trailer all day while your at a park or pool?

He proably was from the POLY;)

With a post of 1 you must have thought long & hard where to grace the boards with your pearls of wisdom to share...trying to incite ? Why not just move along quietly ? :confused3

oh and one more thing :

paw:paw:paw:paw:paw:paw:paw:paw:paw:

I'm not trying to incite. That's just how I feel. Sorry if you don't agree.

I guess I am the only one that is so tired after a long day in the parks that I could sleep through anything. I wouldn't bring my dogs to the parks, but only because they would be alone for most of the day and I might as well send them to the Pet Spa here for their own vacation...but if others choose to I don't see anything wrong with them. They are going to bark because they are getting used to their new surroundings. Not everyone has a dog like mine that refuses to bark.

The peacocks are gone?!? I was an intern at the Villas at Disney Institute before it turned into Saratoga Springs and I thought a child was drowning or someone was screaming help when I was in the treehouse area - I had never heard a peacock cry before! They are truly one of a kind. :) We did have to warn people that they were real and could chase you so maybe the liability of them attacking cars, chasing people, etc. got them a ticket out of the resorts? :(
