My grandfather died of prostate cancer when he was 78. My dad decided to have his prostate removed as a preventative measure when he was in his 60s, I believe. He is now 83 and has that PSA test every three months. The number has gotten too high again and his doctor has recommended hormone therapy or radiation. He's opted for the radiation and will have that done this summer. I guess the risk never goes away?

No it never goes away. The risk of it returning is highly dependent on how aggressive the cancer was before removal

Absolutely. No cancer, then bam, cancer. Marie's father, age 54 at the time, went to the doctor for an achy hip. Found out he had stage IV colon cancer, metastasized to his liver, given a year to live. Dead in 60 days. Who are we to say what people know?
