We are flying down tomorrow morning. My daughter checks in on Monday morning. Any hints or advice on when to get there - what to expect - how to choose a roomate or room size? She knows no one going down.

We will be shopping over the weekend for apartment supplies - any hints with this? How is the storage? What are some things we might not think of? We are so excited.....and a little nervous any help would be great. She will be in merchandising - we do know that she will be at a resort - she is in hotel/restaurant management in school and will get credit for this.

Please help....I know this is last minute:earseek:

Hiya,

First of all CONGRATULATIONS to your daughter! She will have a fantastic time.

I did the international program for 6 mths in 2000. I don't know if the set up is any different for CP over IP but anyways....

We were assigned a room and a roommate when we got there, there was no choice. For me this worked out fantastically (four years on the other three girls I lived with and me still keep in touch and have had a two year reunion etc). Did she specify how many ppl she would like to share an apartment with at the interview? I said up to 8, I ended up with 4 and tbh this was the best. 8 is too many imho (and a lot of my friends out there agreed).

Anyways, when she gets there it might be the case that none of her roommates have yet arrived or if they have they may be out and about already. So be prepared for a big empty apartment but at least she can choose a bed lol!

We all got together a little while in to our programme and bought a cheapy tv from the Walmart. I think this was the best thing to do as if one of us had brought one with us there might have been an argument about watching things on 'their' tv or whatever lol.

Other things I bought whilst there: a coffee machine, I love my caffeine and we also share-bought an answermachine which was very useful once we got it working!!

Check out www.wdwip.com if you haven't already, I'll bet they have info on the CP or at least a link to the cp site if it exists.

If you have any other questions please PM!
Cya,
Gaspode

I probably can't help as I don't know what CP is! Good luck nonetheless.

Love your name,

Katy

I haven't done the CP yet (go down in the fall), but from what I've heard, roommates are assigned based on who you're standing near in line. So, you're probably going to have to judge books by their cover, or try to strike up a quick conversation in line, and then if you don't think you'd get along, let a few other people cut in front of you.

Toilet paper and paper towels are probably a must for any apartment. I wouldn't really worry about other people bringing it as well ... that sort of stuff is pretty cheap. Basic cleaning supplies might be useful too ... soft scrub, stuff to spray the counter (409, Lysol cleaner, etc ... pick 1, they all work pretty similarly), dish soap. Get a plunger for the toilet (I don't know if the apartments come equipped or not). Does your daughter have enough towels?

That's so exciting...she is going to have a great time. The first few days has a lot of filling out forms and autographing. Basically the people that you stand on line with are the people that you would probably be living with. I lived in Chatam Square and had 7 other roomates which is really alot but the apartment is huge and there is tons of closets and space. All of the apartments are pretty big, it really depends on how many roomates she wants to live with but the bigger they are the more space. The big advantage of getting there early is that the line is a little shorter and you get through the check in stuff early in the morning and then have the rest of the afternoon. There is a Super Walmart and a Super Target nearby where most people go shopping for the apartment and they have everything from bedding supplies to food. Its good to get the basics and then go shopping with the roomates for the little fun things. We bought a volleyball, football, a giant map of the United States so when people came over we made them tac in where they are from, and other little things for the apartment.

Oh, toliet paper is a good thing to get in bulk!!

Hope that helped a little. I was a merchandise hostess and had tons of fun with that and had such an amazing time on the program. Hope everything goes good tomarrow and have fun and good luck to your daughter!!

Your daughter will have a great time on the CP. There are several threads about the CP in the Budget Board. You can do a search. There are a few of us that had children go through the program.

My daughter did the CP twice. Your roommates are assigned by who you are standing next to in line. Her first set of roommates were terrible.

As far as shopping they have a bus that takes them to a Super Wal Mart. Don't ship a lot of stuff down because you will find that most of it you don't end up using.

If you have any specific questions ask away.

I just wanted to say congratulations. I did the College Program in the Spring/Summer of 1999. I was a Hotel/Restaurant Major as well and did the 6 mnth hospitality internship at the Front Desk of the All Star Sports Resort.

She will have a blast. I think I specified which size apartment I wanted before I went down, but everyone on here is correct your roomates are who you are standing near in line. Mine where the girls in front of me a few people away because we specified we had the smaller apartment, two bedrooms four people. That was perfect, too many girls in one apartment may lead to too many personalities!!

It was a blast. It was like a Florida college campus w/o all the classes. I brought my car down which made me instantly popular... to be honest I would not want to be there without it but plently of people where and they have busses everywhere.

I agree with the TV, buy a small one when you are there. I brought everything from home since I was driving, stereo TV and it was fine. My apartment actually ended up with only three girls in it because one quite but the apartments never caught up to move us! :) I can't think of much else... specify who's food goes where.... at least until the roomates get comfretable with each other and sharing groceries and going shopping together.

Good Luck and I am sure you daughter will have a blast. I was thinking about it on my way to work and wishing I was young enough to go back and in a stage in my life where I could.

Tell your daughter to stick with being friends with the kids in the program.... I made the mistake of becoming friends with a lot of people at work rather than on the programme. It was great but I feel like I missed out on a lot of the College Program stuff because I was always away with these other friends.... worked out well though because they all still work there and I get great discounts now!!!! I would rather have had some of the other experiences though.... :) Just a word of advice! Have fun!
