I've collected a lot of information from this site about formal night, but I'm still a bit confused. I realize DCL is pretty liberal on its dress policy, but if you want to properly "fit in", are there guidelines printed? For example:

(1) Do most men wear suits or sport coats (I know some, but not most, wear tuxes)?
(2) Do most women wear dresses or pantsuits? Are most dresses formal?
(3) Teen boys--do most wear sport coats, suits, a shirt and tie or a nice open collar long-sleeve shirt with dockers?
(4) Do most teen girls wear dresses or nice pantsuits?

Thank you all for your wonderful advice. I know that's a lot of questions, but it seems like there's been a lot of concern from other first-timers, like myself, about it.

I was on the August 14th Magic. I dressed in a suit on formal night, as did my 2 sons, 12 and 16. We felt comfortable with what we wore, but I might add - we were so engrossed with eating and enjoying ourselves and our tablemates, that we didn't really bothering to even notice what others were wearing. Honestly, who cares? Wear whatever you want to wear, I would not wear shorts (I did see some people wearing shorts, but I was NOT offended in the least). I think people obsess over this too much.

On our Eastern cruise, DH wore a black suit, white shirt, and tie. Our table mate wore a tux the first night. I wore a cocktail sequined dress, and a black and white pallazzo pant suit (fairly dressy). Our DD (9) wore two piece dresses with a long velvet skirt.

On our upcoming Western, DH will wear the same outfit. I have a black dressy suit (there are pants, but they look like a long blac skirt with a sparkly top. DD (12) fell in love with a marked down prom dress that is long. She'll be much dressier than she was on the last trip.

I didn't notice what teen boys were wearing.

I've been on 3 Disney Cruises and I wore a dress one night and pant suits the other two. Husband wore a tux once and sport coats the other times. It was fun to be dressed up, because then your pictures turn out very nice, and sometimes it's fun! But if you don't feel comfortable then don't!

Hubby has worn a nice plain t-shirt under his sport coat as well!

Enjoy!

Thank you, mmouse37 and the others who responded. With the large number of children and wide variance in age range, packing to assure that we have what we need for formal night but keeping within limits was a big concern. I think I have a pretty good understanding of what I need to bring. All of you have been a great help!::yes::
