On DCL, we have been in the habit to nor really dress up on formal night anymore - the most I do is slacks, dress shirt, and a tie, but sometimes not even that. The culture has changed on the DCL ships and we seem to have many people like us who don't dress up on every cruise. What will Celebrity be like for formal night? Will people care that we are more casual (dress shirt, slacks, or a summer dress)? Should we skip the MDR that night and go to the buffet instead?

Celebrity will be very much like you have experienced on DCL. People dress as they please no matter if it is "formal night" or any other night. No reason to skip the MDR since they will serve you even if you aren't dressed up.

That's great news. Thank you!

No one cares. As long as you don't show up in a wet bathing suit. I have worn shorts (dressy shorts, but nonetheless shorts) and dh wearing khakis and a button up shirt no tie into MDR and Luminae (suites mdr) on formal night and no one batted an eye.

Celebrity is owned by Royal Caribbean.

Nobody cares what you wear in the MDR on Royal Caribbean, even on “formal nights” as long as it is not swimwear. I wore shorts and a short sleeved non collar casual shirt on “formal night” in the MDR and I got in. I did this a couple of weeks ago on the Harmony Of The Seas. I enjoyed some delicious lobster and even a delicious steak. If you can wear it at McDonald’s, you can wear it in the MDR on Royal Caribbean. The only thing you cannot wear is swimwear. As for me, I am on vacation, not going to work, a wedding, or a funeral. I dress in comfortable clothes. In fact, I saw many people in the MDR on “formal nights” dressed in the same thing I was.

The only cruise line I know of that is ultra strict on formal dress codes is Cunard.

We were on a Celebrity cruise last June, and we (like many, many others) did not dress up for formal night either. It was not a problem. But it was a short 4- or 5-night cruise. I was not sure if there would be more participation on a 7-day cruise.

Celebrity now calls formal night "Evening Chic." You can google for the specifics, but khakis and and a shirt with a collar are fine for men on any night. Shorts are prohibited, but we've seen people let in in shorts.

We were just on a. Celebrity cruise 2 weeks ago and didn’t even know there was a formal night…I couldn’t tell based on what people were wearing. DH did wear khakis and a polo shirt to dinner each night. I did hear of some men being turned away for wearing short at dinner
