My age 4 and 6 DSs have formal outfits consisting of a button down shirt, slack, tie and vest. Would this be alright for the formal night or would they need to add a jacket to their outfits?

I think they will be fine. I worried about formal night just like everybody else until we sailed and I realized I worried for no reason at all. You will see all ranges of 'formal' attire. If this is what your DS's already have I would not go out and buy anything else. (not unless you really want to:p )

I have myself dressed in long skirt w/matching top, DH in a tux, DS10.5 is in black slacks, dress shirt. Im hoping to borrow a tie for him.
Thought he would be ok dressed like that however may look funny next to DH in a tux! (it's gonna be strange enough w/DH in a tux!)

We're in the minority here. We like to dress up for formal nights -- probably because we don't dress up much while we're at home plus it adds to the excitement of the vacation. My youngest ds really gets a kick out of wearing his suit!! My older two ds don't particularly care to dress up but they do it to please me. This is a great opportunity to have a family portrait taken.

The best suggestion I can give those who want their kids to dress up and not spend a fortune on new clothes (especially if this is going to be a one-time thing) is go to your local thrift shop, Amvet, GoodWill store, etc. You can't believe how many kids suits and dresses are for sale that look like they've only been worn once or twice! Many clothes still have the original tags on them. I bought a perfectly good sport coat for my then 13yo ds for only 95 cents!! There are a lot of bargains out there. HTH

For our January cruise I bought DD's dress at a consignment sale. It was burgundy with gold lame and looked like it had never been worn. The 3 and 4 day are not as formal as the 7 and you will see few suits. On our 3 day last month DH wore a sportcoat to Tritons and was in the minority. I was glad we dressed up though because we got some really nice pictures.

Kids that age are fine dressed as you describe.

Make sure to get to the lobby early for teh formal protraits--they do a GREAT job but the lines are L-O-N-G.
