I was "playing boss" this morning at work. My co-worker called at 11:20 (she was supposed to be there at 8:30) to tell me she forgot to come to work. Her baby was sick and she forgot what day it was?! Now I have sympathy for the sick baby and I know you can forget things, but OY! She did come in at 11:30. I was glad she showed up for the last HOUR since I needed her to lock-up. The things people do..........

I think I'll forget to show up on Tuesday. I have to fly to WI.

I guess it's possible, especially if it's a part-time job with a schedule that varies from week to week. If this person is generally a good employee I would give her the benefit of the doubt. If she makes a habit of screwing up then I would be less inclined to believe her.

There's a girl at work that pulls this stunt at least once a month. It's her second job and her schedule varies week to week, but so does everyone else's! Our schedule is posted a month in advance too!

I chalk it up to her being an airhead!

The supervisor, assistant supervisor and myself had a good chuckle last week over one of my co-workers who is consistently late or doesn't come in at all (without calling in sick), etc. Some of the "stories" are pretty far out there but last week one of his antics absolutely took the cake.. He said he was late because "his alarm clock broke" - and he brought it in with him to show the supervisor!!

If I should ever get a flat, I told the supervisor I'm going to roll the tire right into the office with me and present it as "evidence"..:teeth:

I've never "forgotten" to show up for work had a few close calls though.

We had an employee for a couple of years who then quit and took a job with a competitor. About 6 months after he left a call came in to our office about 7:30AM. It was the ex employee calling in sick TO US.

oh BTW we told him "no problem, see you tomorrow."

Hey, what's wrong with Wisconsin? Wisconsin is pretty cool, IMHO. well, I suppose I live here, but....

We had a girl once who was always doing dumb things like that and she worked a regular 5 day a week 9-5 job! One day she even called in "well". Said she just felt too good to work that day. Of course she was canned the next day. That was the straw that broke it for the boss.

UNBELIEVABLE! I am not sure I would trust this one with keys!!!

Very funny!

Don't get me started with this!
I work in a place where the schedule for the week gets posted two days in advance but not only that, the manager changes the hours and days at her own convenience and does not even call anyone to let them know of the changes.
My hours and days have been the same for years, all of a sudden they change and then she tells me that I should have looked at the schedule, I DID before she changed it, and I proved it to her because she used pen and she couldn't erase it, LOL.
Once I went in to work at my regular time and her husband told me that I had to go back home because I was not supposed to be there until 7 am , I said I'm not going home, nobody told me about the change, he threatened that I would not get paid for the time and I said , ok we will see about that. I stayed and I got paid! The area supervisor told her to keep me on my regular hours as it had been for years.
I do have to say , my manager and her husband are total idiots , her husband has been kicked out of every job he has ever had because nobody can put up with him, trust me when I say that one day someone is going to jump over the counter and beat him up , and I'm not going to break them up either, just the other day he announced to a customer who was mad about his credit card being declined that it wasn't his fault if there was not enough money in his account , I thought the guy was going to kill him, and this is only one of the so many examples I can give.
Oh yeah, and going back to the original post, I had one co-worker just this weekend call at 5:30 am to say that she did not have a babysitter for her 14 yr old son and she didn't find out until 5 minutes before she called. I guess she didn't have one yesterday either because she never showed but she won't need one anymore because she no longer works with us!

I have woke up on the weekend and thought it was time to go to work. My husband used to work first shift at a factory and had to get up at 3am. There were several times when I would wake from a sound sleep in a panic and tell him he's late for work, lol. So, I guess the opposite could happen to someone, lol. Maybe next time she'll go all out and call in dead. :teeth:

Jobs are scarce. Forgetting to come to work is lame.

I also think it IS possible to forget!! I also have gotten dressed and in the car before I realized it was my day off. Also I have had dreams where ithink it my day off and I have actually turned the alarm off. I have only been late twice since I started working at age 17 and I just turned 42!!!

When I used to be a rest. manager I had one guy that had a grandfather that died about 10 times!!!! Once I required him to bring in the paper from the funeral home he stopped using that one.

Also most of my employees knew how much I hated liars and I used to tell them if they just did not want to come in just tell me the truth. I asked them to try to find a replacement but to please tell me the truth. These were high school kids so if they ever did it they would just get another of our workers to come in. I realize that most places can't operate this way though!!!! I had a great group of kids that worked for me at the time and they all came from the same school.
