Forget it - not worth the effort

I don't automatically assume something is a lie or "stretched" though.. maybe I think it but to come right out and say it? No one is perfect... maybe she had a little slip because she really needed a smoke. LOL I would imagine it's HARD to stay in character every single moment...

It would be 3rd hand wouldn't it? It happened to someone (1) who told her (2) who told us.... wait- 2nd hand? LOL

LOL,
Yes, so if you were experiencing it third hand, then I would be getting it from you fourth hand ... and when I tell my DH he will be getting it 5th hand .... and then he tells his co-worker who will be getting it 6th hand ... WAIT. This is getting a bit out of hand, isn't it? :rotfl:

Ah but we're all getting it from HER on this thread. I'm not telling you somewhere else... we're all getting it from her, who got it from the source. So everyone on this thread is getting it 2nd hand. If you tell your husband he's getting it 3rd hand.

The reason why people have a hard time believing this is because this is very out of character (no pun intended). And this isn't coming from YOU...it's coming from a waitress that apparently you don't even know...and we know even less. So for some of us, it works like the "friend of a friend" stories we see passed down via email all the time. Only this time, it involves a complete stranger. When people I personally know can lie about the dumbest things, it's hard for me to trust the word of a complete stranger...especially when I'm hearing about it second hand. People can get all riled up about that if they want, but I'll trrust my experiences.

If I do not see or hear something with my OWN eyes and ears, I take it with a grain of salt. I would certainly not post about a story which is "heresay".

This does not only apply to WDW, but in life. This is the root of slander and rumors and it is wrong, no matter to whom you are referring...be it Aurora or your neighbor or someone famous.

Lesson: If it's not your story keep it to yourself. And even then is it really for you to say?

Thank you!!

I believe her - I don't care if anyone else does or not!

my favorite response at why I shouldn't believe her was this one

well then by that theory - you would be able to believe her story!!!
You should never automatically believe something to be true just because you heard it somewhere or from someone. In that same vein it doesn't make it un true either, that’s why you have to be critical of everything you here. It is a good idea not to believe something to be fact unless you have proof, because falling into lies can be very dangerous.

I'm not saying there is no way this could have happened...I mean look at Tigger right? :smooth:

I'm just saying some things can be misinterpeted at times or over exaggerated and unless I hear it myself I tend not to believe it.

On the subject of Tigger, we had a Pluto that "stopped short" :earseek: (Sienfeld Reference) on my friend and I when we were taking a picture. We both looked at each other and laughed. When you're in a costume like that it must be hard to manuver and see, I really didn't think he was doing it on purpose, but I know some woman would.

Ugh, this is the one thing I don't like about the Dis...
IMO it's utterly ridiculous to assume that because it's forbidden for CMs to "break character" while working, none of them ever do. Seriously, that is just  !!! Bet my bottom dollar it happens on occasion, and I think it's a shame that so many people had to mock the OP for believing the story. :sad2: Even if it's not true, why be so hostile?? I absolutely LOVE WDW, but I do not think it is perfect, nor do I believe the CMs can do no wrong, ever. Again, that's just  !!!!!! JMNSHO.

I believe it may well have happened, OP. And if it did, that stinks! :(

Okay, gotta single this one out...HOW can it possibly be "very dangerous" to believe a story like this, on the off chance it's not true? Seriously, I want to know! What harm can come of it??? Please tell me. I am not being rude; I honestly want to know. :confused3

Could have happened - could not have. They are human too and slip sometimes. If someone's whole vacation was ruined because of that - then they need to get their priorities in order.
BTW, This October my 3 year old could not say pumpkin very well - sounded like the F word. Can't even imagine what people thought I said at my house.
Of course pumpkins were everywhere - we went shopping and she says - mom can I have a "pumpkin" shirt - or where is my "pumpkin" purse?

Well I can answer it from my own point of view...it may be different from the POV that peter11435 had...
It's dangerous in the sense that if you believe a "small" lie...what's to stop you from believing something bigger and bigger and bigger and bigger? And what's to stop you from repeating the lies? This is why it's best to make sure you know that it's fact before repeating someone else's story. You don't know if it's true or not...and if it's not, you wind up spreading the lie even further (and possibly damaging someone's reputation). Even if it is true, it's better not to say anything...there's no point in downing anyone, ESPECIALLY if you don't know if it's true or not.

I was not personally mocking the OP, but experience has taught me to be careful when listening to hearsay. I've had people spread things about me in the past that were untrue...but people had heard from others who heard from others...it's very much like the telephone game. My reputation was destroyed and I had never done anything wrong. So when I see a "he said that she said that he said" post, I err on the side of caution. I more inclined to not believe it. Innocent until proven guilty. Yes I know people are human and can make mistakes, but since no one knows the facts of the alleged situation, we shouldn't all jump a bandwagon to put down this Aurora.

why did the OP delete all of their posts in this thread?

it reminds me of the tinkerbell person's thread from yesterday.....

It is not dangerous to believe "this" story. However I find that many people these days believe anything they hear or anything people tell them to be fact. That I think is very dangerous. People need to use their own judgment and not automatically believe something unless they have facts to support it. I can tell you that I am amazed by how many times the news media reports things that are not accurate, and yet the general public can do nothing but simply believe them.

and if all this was on the up and up why would they delete them?? I just don't get it? Are people posting these things to get a rise out of others? to start something?

The OPs been around for a year now and is very nice. I think she was just hurt by some of the replies to her thread so she chose to delete everything. That is how some here deal with the issue when they feel attacked, hurt, or insulted.

I'm so sorry OP, that some were so negative. I appreciated your story for what it was and I can see why you wanted to share it. I probably would have done the same thing! :wave2:

Very well said. Exactly what I was trying to say.

well - I am sorry some were so negative toward her...

last time we went to CRT we rode up with one of the "princesses" - she was Sleeping Beauty I realized when she came to our table...and it was me, DH, 2 dd's and the bell man and her...the bell man said to her the other girls are waiting for you...she was in character the whole time and DD's were 2 and 2 months...I thought it was great...she didn't go and say who she was or anything...DH and I realized but you could tell her poker face was on.

and as a side note - nothing against the OP, I am just responding to the "been on here a year and nice" comment....being on the 'net has taught me that you can't trust everyone....regardless how nice they seem. Even if you are hurt by what others say I think many take it as suspicious (well, I do)when the poster goes back and deletes their posts....

I deleted my original post b/c I didn't really feel like turning this into a thread questioning my integrity - someone I know told me this story - I was APALLED by it and wanted to see what the reaction of other DISers might be -

when I started this thread I NEVER dreamed in a million years that people would say that I made it up or the person who told me did -or question my integrity or accuse me of slander -

why is perfectly okay to say - my sister saw Belle at Toontown fair on her last visit and be believed but I have no right to relay a story about Disney told to me -

I did not identify this Aurora in any way - I did not contact Disney about the incident - I posted to see your reactions

Thank you BeattyFamily - I think most people around here know me and that I am not one to just go making things up - and to be honest - I feel sorry for people who are distrustful of everything they hear - maybe I am gullible or naive - but I tend to see the good in people - hasn't failed me yet!

Wow! So I guess you are saying that in your entire life you have never repeated something someone else told you? That's a hard thing to do.
