which engine does it have?
extended cab, or regular? 6 or 8 foot bed?

I am not sure about gas mileage and cant ask DH because he is on a fishing trip till tomorrow. But I can tell you we Love his 04 150.It is DHs baby.It is an Awesome truck. It rides so smooth it feels like you are riding in a car.He has had it since March and it has only got 2000 miles on it:rolleyes: .He says he dont want to put that many miles on it, so we drive my 05 Escape and it already has 12000 miles on it and we got them both the same day.So you can tell how he babies his truck. He takes it out and washes it at least once a week:teeth: .I am surprised he dont try to sleep in it.

I think you will really Love them though. He put a super chip in his and that helps alot on the gas mileage and a K&N air filter.
I will ask him tomorrow and I will post back.

thats the one downfall- they need those add-ons for power!

sorry, we're a GM family here. Though my DBIL has a F350 PowerStroke that I enjoy driving. Its a bit to noisy for me, but i'm use to our very quiet Chevy Diesel.

I know what you mean about mileage- my Envoy I got in March has 16000 miles on it...though DH's 01 has just turned 100K today..we put a TON of miles on both of our rigs.

I forgot to mention that the 2004 ford f150 will have the 8 cyl and also will be the short bed.

thanks,

I have an F150 XL with a 4.8 V* engine and it sucks gas like nothing I have ever seen! It costs me 40+ dollars to fill it up with gas prices at about $1.96 and it only goes about 300 miles on that. So that is the downfall....BUT I LOVE MY TRUCK! Its the greatest and I could ask for nothing better.

DH loves his 2000 F150 V8 Magnum4X4 extended cab pickup with a 6 foot bed. It is a nice truck and we haven't had any problems. I would ask what type of commuting/driving you do? He has quite a commute and it costs $40 to fill the tank, he thinks he gets 16-18 MPG. The truck is handy for dump runs and such and to take on the beach. It seems really expensive to run to me but he likes it a lot and doesn't want to get something smaller. My brother is a Ford mechanic and mentioned there were some known problems with that engine (but I forget what exactly) - the dealerships have Technical Service Bulletins that you could check to see if there are known problems you could avoid.

Thanks for all the great feedback

Pea-n-Me

I travel 44 miles one way to work......I average about 90 miles per day.

I have a gmc sierra right now with the 4.3 6 cyl , but am only getting about 13/14 miles per gallon. People tell me it's because the engine is small. They tell me that a v8 would get better gas.

thanks

LOL, I'm remembering when we asked my brother the difference in gas mileage between the F150 and the F250 he said "ones bad and the other is worse" (he himself drives a Ranger for a 10 mile commute)! True, I think. DH travels about 50 miles one way too so I don't even want to do the math :magnify: (16-18 mpg seems high to me). Oh well, it's a safe truck and very handy. I'm sure you'll love it. You just have to ask yourself if it makes sense with the long commute you have and how you'll be impacted if gas prices rise even more. Good luck in your decision!

NOOOOOOOOO!!! Please DO NOT put a K&N air filter in!! They are oil charged and will plug up your air flow system and contaminate your injectors!!! I have an 04 Supercrew 150 4x4 and I love my truck. I get a little over 300 miles on a tank. I don't run it all the way down and usually fuel up before I hit 1/8 tank. It is a gas hog I must say! My truck was in the dealer in August. Ring and pinion was shot (from delivery time!) and they replaced the whole rear end. Last Wed. I went to p/u kids from catechism and I couldn't keep the thing running. Had it towed ($71 later) to the dealer since I didn't want to take the chance of it dieing in the middle of an intersection. Turns out the mass air flow sensor AND throttle position sensor took a dump. Now it runs so smooth. While I am idle it feels like it isn't even running! Also, I had to change my air filter. Fram does not make a filter for my V8 5.4 engine. The dealer wanted $45 for the part and installation. I ended up getting a $26 WIX filter. Very good brand. I got my truck 9-11-03 and it has 16300 miles already. I previously had a 97-150 and this one is so much nicer.

Our 02 F150 Fx4 Supercrew, shortbed (whew, a mouthful!) gas mileage is 13/17. It has the 5.something V8 engine.
