Ok we are driving to the world from Illinois,And I wanted to ask you all some great Local spots to eat along the way We go 75 so all the way down Il,to KY ,Tn ,Gorgia and Florida,I would love to stop for chicken and Waffles,Thanks for your reports Names should be good I can google the directions

We drive from NJ on I95, so no advice, but I figured my response would move your thread up to the top. I hope you get some suggestions.

Happy Driving. We are heading down in 3 weeks!!!:thumbsup2

We drive from Illinois also. We take the 65 route thru Indiana. As far as eating I can't help you either we are always in a rush to get there we just stop and grab something while we gas up. Although the last trip we left at about 9:30 at night and got to the Ruby Falls area about 8AM and ate at the cracker barrel and did Ruby Falls it was a nice break for me to rest my eyes before continuing the rest of the way. We always drive straight thru.

Good luck and safe travels

Since you're driving through Georgia, I just wanted to warn you about Georgia's insane "Super Speeder" law. If you are caught driving 85 on the interstate or 75 on a two-lane road you will get an extra fine on top of the court fees and fine associated with the ticket.

You will get no notification, nothing from the ticketing officer and nothing from the court when you call to pay your fees. Later, after you've paid your fee, and, therefore admitted guilt for the ticket, the Dept. of Driver Services sends you a notice that you owe the State of Georgia $200. Basically you get fined twice for the same offense.

Just FYI.

If you want local chicken and waffles, Thumbs Up cafe in Atlanta. There's one a few miles off the Cleveland Avenue exit on 1-75/I-85 Exit and turn right on Cleveland -about 2miles to Main Street, make a right. Thumbs up is a few blocks down the street, in the block right across from the Marta Station.

Nice atmosphere, exposed brick and big tables. Good southern food. Don't let anyone tell you the neighborhood is scary - main street is where Woodward Acedemy is located and has a nice and safe little business district.

We also drive (from the Peoria area). In the hundred or so trips down and back I can honestly say there is not a "must do" place to stop and eat. We are in such a hurry to get there that we just drive thru and eat in the car. :yay: On the way home we are too bummed to stop and eat. :sad1:

Enjoy your trip!!!!!

I get Bummed on they was home too ,I thought tasting the local foods would be a nice way to look forward to going back toward home...well as forward as we can be leaving our fav place in the world. We ran into a family from Peoria last year when we went down ,Maybe it was you all?

We say this place on the travel channel!! we are going to make a stop there Looked so good !!!

A warning - do not order a cheeseburger. It's a patty with pimento cheese spread. You have to specify American Cheese burger.

I can't eat Varsity - too greasy. I always joke that one meal there and I save on groceries for a week because it stays with you for so long! My kiddos, however, love it.

The original Chic Fil A Dwarf House is just off the Hapeville exit - they serve burgers and other unique things like the hot brown ( my favorite) and there's a cute wall with animatronic scene from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

Thanks! I think we will put this on our list!

Thanks for the warning I don't think the kids would like Pimento spread:laughing:

Great FYI ,Do you speak from experiance? and is this road still under construction? I remember a long area that was down to 1 or 2 lanes That stunk!!

another FYI for anyone driving - ESP through the night. The original Chic Fil A Dwarf House (hapeville exit on I-75) is open 24 hours M-Sat and they serve breakfast. You can also get TS or CS. And they have "I ate at the original Chic Fil A" shirts. :goodvibes

we have stopped here before and it's good. we always drive straight thru also- everyone is excited to get there! have fun!!

If you want to try chicken and waffles you have to go to Gladys and Ron's (http://gladysandron.net/) It is owned and ran by Gladys Knight and her son....awesome chicken and waffles! Plus the whole cool factor of Gladys Knight! :cool2:

There is another place for cool southern food just off 75...OK Cafe...they have everything from grilled cheese sandwiches to rosemary chicken...they even have fried cheese grits for an appetizer! :yay:

The Varsity is good too....you have to get what they call a Frosted Orange to cut the grease though....best thing there is chili dogs and onion rings! Just be sure to read the menu and know what you want before you go up to the counter... :cheer2:

Have a safe trip down...

We're in Rockford!

We drive pretty much the same way you take, and we do stop for the night. We actually take 2 1/2 days to drive. (no super powers here :lmao:)

We haven't stopped at many local places. With the ages of our children, our stops are usually play land oriented. We usually do a picnic lunch the first day (gotta love the real playgrounds at the rest stops in IL :thumbsup2). We eat at Chick-Fil-A at least once (gotta get my fix). I have never been to the original; that sounds like fun. We also hit Hardees at least once, as I just don't get up to WI to eat at the ones closer to us.

We did eat at a Shoney's for breakfast last year, but that would probably be more regional? At least it was something different from what's in Northern Illinois!
