For whatever reason, what is the biggest person to sleep on POR murphy bed?

There is a reason behind this insanity!

We are currently booked at CR, we will be flying down so not likely able to pack an air mattress...but we have 5 in our family and RARELY are in our hotel room besides putting our head to pillow. We have 2 teenaged daughters and one 17 year old son. Problem is he is 6'3...he's also the most affable, easy going, can sleep on a rock kind of kid.

I just jokingly asked my youngest teen (and showed her the picture) if she would sleep on it since she is our shortest at 5'5. She said she'd love to! She's the one at all the slumber parties that combines two chairs together to sleep on rather than a sleeping pallet. But that would mean my son would need to sleep with my husband and i would sleep with my other daughter..uh, I don't think my son likes the idea of sleeping with his Dad...well, he does snore a bit :) But, my son who is all Philmont trained (outdoorsy Boy Scout adventurer) loves the idea of sleeping on that little murphy bed!

I'm loving the idea that we could save $1000 more dollars by staying there! Is this crazy or have other families ever had to manage this for whatever reason? Just curious how small those murphy beds are once you put a body on it, all recommendations say no one over 9...but curious how many of you have put it to the test?

We just returned from POR and let me tell you that murphy bed is awesome! My 7 year old claimed the bed right away but I kept commenting on it being big enough for an adult to sleep on. I am 5 ft7in and I could have slept there. I do not think anyone who is very tall (6 ft or more) would be comfortable though. I think your daughter would be fine though! It is gorgeous resort too!

How comfy are the queen beds? Are they they same type of bed as the ones in Contemporary? If they were still full size beds we wouldn't consider it but I bet I can talk my son into sleeping with my husband..my daughter says she would love it....we love love the Contemporary but with 3 children all about to be in college within 3 years..I just don't see us spending a $1000 on comfort??? Sooo confused!!

I'm going to go the other way and say no. My 5 YO slept on it, my 11 YO laid on it and looked too big, but would have worked if needed. Dont know that he would have had enough room to sleep on it the entire trip. He is just shy of 5 ft. I sat on it and it was rather comfortable, and weight wise, I'd say yes. But the length... I'd say no, and I am all about saving $$$. Wish I could get pics to upload and I'd show you the pic of DS laying on it- his feet are hanging off the edge.

The queen bed are VERY comfortable. Never stayed in CR, but have picky DH when it comes to beds, and he slept like a baby. But maybe get a measurement of the murphy bed to be sure she will fit. I agree saving $1000 would be worth it, but dont take any of our opinions- see if you can get a measurement. 2 weeks ago- I could have done it for you.

I think the small bed would be fine for a night, but likely not for a whole vacation. I've slept on something similar but it does start to hurt your back after a while after sleeping slightly scrunched up.

That was my fear, I kept telling them that after a full day of walking in the parks you'll want to stretch out and rest, both claim they always sleep curled up in a ball and once their head hits the pillow they'll be out...but I also wonder how that pillow stays on the bed?? there is no headboard...nothing more annoying to me than the pillow falling off the bed...
My son has camped in 0 degrees slept on the ground with no cover for over 10 days...he's almost convinced me we can do this..I just need more experience reviews from those who've been there done that! :)
Thanks so much all, these are helping the family discussion!

I would do it to save the $,(can they split sleeping arrangements 50/50?)

BUT, how will they do in that small space with showering/privacy at that age? I know CR rooms are bigger, but is the layout better for that senario?

That being said, $1000 is a LOT of money. I would find a way to make it work lol!

I asked a similar question to this last fall and someone posted a picture of their 11yo(I think) on the bed. I think someone who is 5 ft is probably the tallest you would want to have sleep on the mattress on the platform. Google: Port Orleans murphy bed photo.
Someone else responded that the mattress is Velcroed onto the platform and can be placed on the floor. I cannot confirm that, but if it is true then your boy scout might not mind using it like a foam pad on the floor.

My daughter who was 16 at the time slept on it but she is only 4'11", she loved it and removed it off the frame so she could be closer to an outlet for her phone. I don't think anyone much taller than her would have fit comfortably.

Another option is BC/YC or BWI. Those rooms are significantly less than the CR tower rooms. It might be worth it to look into that.

I have the absolutely lowest price for the five of us for 6 nights at a Deluxe....here is the pricing...

BC....$4600 (only laguna view or higher..not allowing standard)
BWI....$4180 (will allow standard view)
CR....$3800 (snagged a standard with Free dining!)
A0A (Family Suites upgraded to DDP)....$3700
POR.....$2800

Why couldn't they have just ONE daybed in one of their rooms at POR??

Has anyone around 5'6 slept on it? My daughter is tiny, she's tallish but only weighs 100 pounds....I'm getting closer to talking ds into sleeping in the queen with my husband....anyone with experience with taller than 5'0 sleeping on it?

I would really rather keep people off the floor, that is another reason that concerns me....two of the kids in the past had problems with asthma down there, they have been fairly well here (ds is on daily steroid) but sleeping on the floor or close to it stirs up a whole lot of 'stuff' that gets tracked in from the outside...also wondering about the air conditioners...are they loud? We've had issues in the past of air conditioners not being central and having humidity/mold issues with 'attached' units...

We stayed at AKL and just opening the savannah view door one time and having a smoker next door to us at that exact moment sent ds into a breathing attack, next 3 days were bound to our room with nebulizer and steroids from ER...that was 10 years ago and I doubt anything like that would happen but we've always stayed at 'inside' resorts since then with no problem...aagh! Too many decisions!

I stayed at the AoA with my family of 5 last year, it was fantastic. With 3 teenagers, having that additional bathroom would be a big perk. We were all taking 2 showers a day while we were at Disney last year. One right after swimming, and another after spending time at the park. I think POR is a great option for younger children, but I think you and your family would be happier in the long run with the CR or AoA.

I wouldn't downgrade. It's going to be mighty crowded in that room for all of you and that bed doesn't look very comfortable for more than a couple nights. I would downgrade to AoA or stay at CR. Yes you could save $1000 but you could ruin your vacation doing so.

I just tried to book POR online and it is saying no availability, odd..I had tried it with five just two days ago and it popped up...could they be sold out of free dining rooms already? Or have they changed the room reservation system to not allow 5 in a room? it only shows maximum of four occupants on all their rooms....might try and call...

I have no doubt we would be more comfortable but in our minds $1000 in savings means an extra trip to Disney the following year...if not it means we wait 2 years to go on a family vacation...so, we do not mind being a bit uncomfortable...we're used to tent camping with no showers :) And even though we have 4 bathrooms in our house everyone of us all use the same shower each day..we're used to that, it's the savings not the comfort that is calling us :) Thanks so much!

I heard from a family who had a 5'6 teenager sleep on it and she said she loved it...so here we go, we are cancelling CR and biting the bullet to save $1050 and book Alligator Bayou!!!

We are really kind of excited because we've never stayed here and we really love how the AB look on the outside! We're a close knit family, we'll have fun with this tight fit :) :crowded::thumbsup2

Thanks all!!

I measured the murphy bed. It is 5.5' long and about 30" wide. Slightly bigger than a crib mattress.
