Well, after hearing my family babble on and on about how great and how much fun WDW is, my mother and father in law who are now both in their 70’s decided they wanted to go for their 50th anniversary. They have not been to Orlando since they went with my wife in the 1970’s. So this was basically a first time. I utilized all the useless Disney knowledge I now own thanks to all the research I did here planning our last two trips to plan out all the details for them.

I was very worried about them down there by themselves and felt like if anything happened it would have been my fault. But they returned last week from an amazing 8 day trip and I don’t think they could have had a better time. They absolutely loved it. They wore anniversary buttons that they picked up in Town Hall and were treated like royalty all week.

It just goes to show, that as long as you are young at heart, Disney World really is for everyone.

BTW, this one could go in the “funniest comment” thread, but they were chatting with a newlywed couple on their honeymoon who after telling them they were there for their 50th anniversary, the newlywed bride replied. “Oh, did you come here for you honeymoon, too??”
:)

DH and I are 60ish and we love trips to WDW. I go every year, DH goes every other year. I go with my DGKs one year, and just DH and me (alone) the next. Works out perfectly! And when we are no longer physically able to do all that walking - we hope our DGKs will be the ones to push us around in a wheelchair!

I just took my mom (79) for her first trip to WDW this January. She absolutely loved everything about it! She rode everthing (except for thrill rides like Space Mtn, Rock N Roller, etc), LOVED Muppets, Philharmagic, Soarin, Peter Pan, the TTA. But I think her favorite was Spaceship Earth...she was like a little kid when we were leaving Epcot one night "Can I ride Spaceship Earth one more time??"

When she came home, she called her sister (77) and told her she HAD to go to WDW..

Now mom wants us to plan a trip in 2008 and this time she wants my younger sister's family to go along too....I've created another Disney monster! :thumbsup2

We had a few more issues because MIL never drove a scooter before but we managed a week long trip there. We had to take it very slow even though she really has no huge medical problems. The crowds were a bit much for a small town girl and we stayed real close to her at all times. I will say I watched her very carefully throughout the trip and I could see the twinkle in her eyes and the pixie dust. It was her first time and I don't think she'll forget it.

My parents (early 60's) love WDW and often go with us. However they are not tagging along with us they have their own plans and schedules and we meet up with them and love to hear their adventures. My parents always like to try new things there too. They have in the recent years done Richard Petty, horseback riding, segway tour, bass fishing, HDDR and they love to try out the marina boats. WDW is great for all ages.

I think thats so cute your parents wore anniversary buttons. I didn't even know they had those, only knew about the birthday buttons.

Well, I think this one was a little different. They went on their own without their grandkids AND without any previous experience and had an awesome time. They will be going back with us in future but they wanted to go by themselves for their anniversary. I planned everything out but I was nervous about them getting lost or having problems or just not having fun, but that was not the case. Obviously, Disney World is great for kids and for parents/grandparents to spend time with kids but it really says something when first time senior adults w/o kids can go, get around easily, be treated so well and have a great magical vacation.

I don't know about you all but it makes me feel good!!

My dh and I went in Oct w/our two small boys and as we stood in line to catch the bus home from Epcot one night a darling elderly couple got in line with us. They had to be in their 80's. They were talking about all they'd done. The thing that struck me as funny was that we were completely exhausted and they looked like they could make a few more loops around Epcot before calling it a night. :moped:

I think WDW is a terrific place for their 50th Anniversary. And they're not alone! We recently saw a woman celebrating her 92nd birthday in B&C, having a Kitchen Sink with her family. Her son told us that that had been her request. Heck, I'd love DH to take me there to celebrate our 50th. That's where we're going for our 25th, only another 25 years!
