? for those without kids

To play devil's advocate here, if this particular couple (older with grown kids) moved into a new neighborhood with bigger (4 BR) houses that was advertised as "family friendly", shouldn't they expect it a little or be more tolerant? Is it reasonable to think that children will never make noise or go on their lawn?

DISCLAIMER: The kids know they are not to go on their lawn and don't. Sometimes balls will roll in and are quickly retrieved.

My childhood was spent running around my neighborhood, playing with kids, having fun. Not only were we tolerated by the neighbors, they watched over us and acted like second sets of eyes for our parents. That seems so "Leave it to Beaver" now.

Heck I have a kid and it would bother me!! I don't let my daughter out in the yard until after 9am-most times closer to 10 since I know my neighbors don't get up until 9:30-10:00. I guess playing quietly on the swings would be ok..but nothing with noise at that hour or the morning!

We have a neighbor next door who has a 14 year old son. Every morning during the school year at 7:10am someone pulls up to the house to pick him up to go to school and blasts the horn! I'm usually leaving about that time so it doesn't bother me but I know it bothers an older neighbor across the street who usually doesn't get up until later. The kid knows what time he is to be picked up, I don't think he needs the horn to let him know his ride is there. We also have the opposite problem with him in the summer, he is sometimes is out playing basketball at 11:00 or 12:00 at night! No consideration....

All man I hate for to live in my neighborhood then you will go crazy. I live 5 miles from the airport and 747 is flying over the house all time. Then if not that loud muisc people playing there cars. Even if not on your street. You still here the lound music.

I think kids will be kids unless doing something against law then there should be a problem.

Would you be upset if your neighbor's children were outside playing in the morning before school (8:00am)?

No - not at all, but then I actually like kids. I live with my dad who is 83. We have an oversized driveway and extra parking area in the front of the house. The kids love to come ride their bikes (especially the beginners) and skate etc. We don't mind it all. Even my old dog (11 year old cocker spaniel) doesn't bark at them.

As someone with kids, but who HATES morning, and who lives in a neighborhood that sounds just like yours, my opinion is that while they would expect kids to be all around, maybe not at that hour... The wife might sleep in after her husband leaves, you just don't know. But I agree that it's noisy stuff like basketballs that you should be concerned about, not them talking, laughing, running, etc....

I would just go over and talk to the wife and tell her what your concerns are. Tell her you're worried your kids will bother them, and that you want to set groundrules for them so that you can all live nice & neighborly. If you came to my house and did that, I'd be so impressed!

A basketball would bother me, yes. But I'm having flashbacks to the kids who used the side of my house as a basketball court. :teeth: Kids, playing, no. We live right next to the big base bus stop, and the only problem I had was kids cutting through our backyard to the shelter, and from there, taunting my kitties. Them talking THERE bugged me, since my bedroom is in the back of the house and they didn't really have a right to be in my backyard. Now that they go around to the front of the house, I hardly hear them. Except that one day that kid had a recorder (the plastic/wooden flute things.) Oh, I wanted to kill that kid.
