I own an old version of Photoshop Elements 2.0. I'm pretty computer savy -- have a BS in computer science from the dark ages...but I can understand things pretty well I think. I'm a fast learner....but for the life of me, I've just never gotten even the basic understanding of PE 2.0. Its just not intuitive to me or very user friendly. I can usually figure things out with out looking in Help...but I honestly had to buy a book for it to help.

I have several other programs I use that work for me in ease of understanding...but takes alot of steps to get what I want done.

So, today.....I watched the 15 minute presentation on Adobe's website for PE 5.0. OMG.... I WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!!!! I LOVED everything they were showing from using tags to sort photos, to how easy & advanced their photo editing is, to scrapbook pages.

I've know for a while that people are using PE to do digital scrapbooking & downloading free "kits" & "supplies" off the web. BUT, what I'm wondering is this. If I buy PE 5.0, and I decide to use background paper that I downloaded elsewhere, does the free downloaded paper & embellishments show up in the list or viewer of available papers WITHIN PE 5.0.....or will I need to leave PE 5.0 & search my downloaded supplies for what I want, & then import it to PE 5.0.

I hope someone understands my question. lol

I WOULD LOVE LOVE LOVE  to get PE 5.0. I was just about to undertake the huge job or re-sorting my 7 yrs of digital photos, because my old method just isn't working well for the amount of photos we now have. I would love to use the tag method & dateline method they showed in the presentation.

PE 5.0 just seemed to be way more user friendly & intuitive than my old PE 2.0 version. I sure hope I'm right.

This is where I watched several demos: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopelwin/

Sorry that I can't answer your questions, but I just found something to add to my Christmas list - thanks! :thumbsup2

We are getting built-ins put in our bedroom over the garage in December and after that we will be setting up the computer areas. Right now it's a big mess with things all over the place - I am even on DH's computer as mine had a major crash so I have not been able to do much. I really hope to learn more about digital photography and get organized and creative. It is my goal for 2007! (much nicer than those lose weight resolutions! :) )

Jill.....me too, but I'm not waiting for Santa. :rotfl2: Digital scrapbooking was my roots prior to 1999 when I started paper scrapbooking. Paper method has always frustrated me due to limitations of paper color, & photo size...... and digi scrapping the OLD way usually involved using several programs to accomplish what you wanted. And digi scrap supplies just DIDN'T exsist. We used lame clipart. lol

BUT I THINK I can answer my own question. I just found this http://www.arraich.com/elements/pse5_freeGraphics_oldBook.htm where it sounds like we add the background paper files to a place in PE 5.0...and then the papers will show up in the palette with all the other ones. :dance3: :cheer2: :Pinkbounc

I've got a list growing for a field trip to Best Buy or somewhere....lol

DEAR SANTA:
I would like: PE 5.0 and MAYBE a book to refer to just in case,
a GorillaPod SLR,
and another memory card for my new Canon S3 IS. :teeth:

Thanks Santa.

Thanks, I bought PE 5. So far I've been spending time tagging & organizing my 5000+ photos. OMG, I had NO IDEA I had that many. I had them in folders before by subjects, but I much prefer chronogical. With PE 5, I can have it BOTH ways. And its so cool to say, show me all pics of Splash. Or all pics of Splash & DH. Or Splash & DH at Christmas..... in 2005. But at the same time, have the chronological like a regular photo album. You can create tags for people, events, places, objects, anything you want.

And since I had them loosely sorted by subjects (before they got out of control), I can also sort by my old subjects for the ease of applying tags to make the job go faster. I don't necessarily have to tag each photo one at a time.

And when I'm done tagging, I'll be able to get my oldest photos off the computer & backed up onto their own CD's (by year)....BUT keep a thumbnail image in PE 5 to remind of what photos are on what CD's. This will free up space on computer. :cheer2:

I can't even image all the cool stuff once I get everything organized. :thumbsup2

While I don't use elements, I do use photoshop CS2 and paintshop pro and you can easily import graphics into the program to use for your digitalscrapping.

I warn you though, its as addicting as paper scrapping :thumbsup2 .

It's the only way I scrap now.
