Would it be worth it to spend $10 extra a night for a ground floor, poolside room? We're planning on going in a few weeks & SOG just happened to have openings. Our normal rate would be $97 a night, but I just saw that they're offering the ground floor poolside room for $107. If the pools are heated, we most definitely would probably like to spend some time at the pools & our 2 yr old would love to have easy access to the playground (I assume that it's near the pool). Since I've never been to SOG, I don't know what the walk from other parts of the hotel are like to the pool. So, in your opinion, is it worth the $10 extra a night? Thanks for all your input!

Yep, go for the poolside room. Even if you don't use the pool, any room on the ground floor has a patio that is not enclosed by any boundaries, so it seems much larger.

Hi! Well, I guess poolside access depends on the person's needs. The pool is heated and kept at a steady temperature, it was like bath water when we were there in November. It's a bit of a walk from the pool area to the main building(busses to parks, stores, etc) but it's not a huge deal and the landscaping is so beautiful you hardly notice. I'd say it took us 10 minutes to walk to the pool from our room in the new section and that includes taking the elevator down and walking over there. Yes, the playground is by the pool, but by the main pool, not the smaller one. If you're by the smaller pool then you'd not be near the playground. If you plan to spend a lot of time at the pool then yes, it's probably worth the extra money, if not then I'd just take what they give you, although that doesn't mean you won't end up in that area anyways.

Have a great time, I can't say enough good things about SOG, we *loved* it!

We just got back. We did not use the pool. The weather was beautiful for the parks but not warm enough for swimming. We enjoyed being in the new section for convenient access to the parking garage (we used our rental car for everything but MK).

I agree completely! I had no desire to listen to a bunch of kids screaming and yelling while playing in the pool and having little to no privacy (the patios are 'open'). I wanted a calm, quiet view of the golf course where I could watch the storms roll in, look for wildlife, laugh at the golfers and have some semblance of privacy. It all depends on what YOU (the guest) feel is more important. And as the other poster mentioned, the pools are heated.

As to whether or not it's warm enough to swim depends on your tolerance. While I wouldn't go swimming in the winter (unless it's some where in the mid 80s), many people up north feel our 60 and 70 degree temps are warm enough. :)

Ditto!! Our last stay at DW, we were offsite, but had a poolside view. Not fun. :worship: Kids screaming, mine included!! It's all great when your AT the pool, but try going up to your room to take a nap. Not going to happen. Then there are ALWAYS those who try to sneak in after hours for a "quiet" swim  Think LONG and hard on this one.

we were in the old section & never even saw the pool...when we go back in a few weeks, i think i'd like the pool bc i'll be with the kids while dh is at meetings.....
but, be warned............bring your own soap & shampoo bc the liquid stuff sog provides is terrible & inconvienent.
