While at the vet today, I got schooled on the difference between "health certificates" and simple shot records. Well, it was news to me that many states require these official certs. issued from the health department (that are only good for like 10 days) just to bring your pet into the state. Florida is one that requires this. We aren't full timers -- just vacationers and are wondering if people really get these "official" certs. or just carry the shot records and other paperwork such as recent exam results, licenses, etc. We've always done that and never had a problem, but now I wonder if we're pressing our luck not travelling with the official certificates.
These certs. cost $25 here and require a full vet exam. And if the trip is longer than 10 days, we are supposed to arrange to get another one while on the road. We're in and out all the time and sometimes travel to neighboring states at the last minute for just a couple of days. How are we supposed to arrange for getting one of these things every other week or so on short notice, plus while we're on the road? Makes me wonder if we made a mistake getting the MH, since the primary purpose was to travel with the dog. Maybe we'd have been better off just continuing to board her. Because if we have to keep getting these certificates, we're going to go broke between their costs and the costs of a vet exam every time. Not to mention the time consumed going back and forth to the vet's.
Please share your experiences! Also does Ft. Wilderness require these certificates? What do they want to see when you bring your pet? We're going for the 1st time the end of this month and are now so confused. Thanks for any help.
