How do you do it? lol I searched but didn't really see a thread that quite got this answered.... so forgive this newbie if it's been answered before!

We will be taking our first Disney trip in November and have the Deluxe dining plan, so I anticipate taking snacks home with us. This will also be our first time to fly (yikes!).

So a couple of questions I have are:
1: do you put them in your checked or carry-on bags?
2: did you bring something in particular to pack them in?
3: I assume that cupcakes are questionable to bring, and I know most things pre-bagged (trail mix, candy, etc) are probably easier to transport, but what other things travel better than others?

Thanks in advance!

I've taken candy bars, rice crispie treats, popcorn (especially the caramel corn from Karamel Kuche), and chips home with me. I tend to put the more solid snacks into checked luggage or if it's something softer, I put it in something hard (like a popcorn bucket) first. I do carry some snacks onto the plan, but it can't have liquids.

Great, thanks!
I know it seems like an obvious thing, but I'd hate to end up trying to take something home that just ends up being a big mess when I get there!
I figured some of the veteran Disney folks might give me some insight.

I am notorious for bring home a caramel apple! I love them and they travel fine in my carry on.

I always bring the bakery type snacks with me in carry on and the prepackaged snacks (like candy or crackers) in checked, if i can't fit in on my carry on luggage.

We were in Disney last week and I brought home cookies from Karamel Kuche, muffins from the Boardwalk bakery and bagged candy, and everything made it home in one piece!

We also put our snacks in a popcorn bucket! It works great. Sometimes it goes in our carry-on and sometimes in checked baggage. The items would typically be cookies, brownies, or chocolates from the Main Street Confectionary etc. I can't remember ever taking a cupcake home...I imagine that could get messy with the frosting.

I usually take a plastic shoe box, the ones you get in the dollar store and put stuff in there. It doesn't take much space since I take it full on the way to Disney. I've brought home the create your own rice crispy treats, and the marshmallow ones too, and they travel just fine in the box. My niece carried home a cupcake last year (yes, she's crazy) in a drink cup. She dropped the cupcake in and cut the cup off when she got home. I was a little jealous the next day when she ate it.

We've taken lots of cupcakes home. Checked baggage is best, because some TSA agents won't let the icing pass - creamy like skin lotion supposedly. However, others do let cupcakes pass - risky, so checked bag is better.

We've taken lots of sticky buns from Boardwalk Bakery in carryon; no problem, but then no icing. To eat at home, we microwave for 30 seconds, put on easy-to-make icing of powdered sugar, milk, & dash of vanilla. Too yummy!! :cheer2:

How to pack -
1. Cupcakes - The box from Starring Rolls is good for 1 cupcake - won't stand up, lay on side. Snap top; top will be somewhat raised, but will catch; will mush just barely, but no damage to cupcake. Place box in gallon baggie. Pack in middle of checked luggage with clothes on top & clothes on bottom.

2. Sticky Buns - The box from BB is great; holds 2. Ask for 2 wrapping papers per bun. In room, wrap each bun with 2 papers. Place 2 buns in box. Optional to place box in baggie - not really much to get messy, but does keep buns contained.

We also often bring home Magic Cookie Bars from POR. These are easy. Just place several in baggie & pack.

Another cupcake suggestion would be to take some secure containers from home. Cupcake in container - container in baggie - pack.

All of our snacks have made it home in great shape. But the baggies are an insurance policy.

These are some great tips. Love the plastic shoe box tip!

Thank you all!

We had over a dozen snack credits left on our last day in Feb. so we used them all at the caramel store in Germany. If you ask them they will pack it in plastic snap cover containers. They travel really well and I think 8 of the chocolate and sea salt covered caramels fit in a container. I also loved the pineapple covered in caramel and chocolate. These all traveled really well in the check on luggage.

I put them in my carry on. When we came back in December I had 30 mickey head rice krispie treats...lol

I will have to take a peek at that place!!

The Minnie Bake Shop cookies are pre-packaged but delicious! LOVE them. :) I also like to grab a package or two of the Mickey Shaped cheese crackers (like goldfish) - I put them in my kiddos lunches for post-Disney snacks. And I always pack a flat Tupperware container to bring home some Mickey Gingerbread cookies.

I've bought gingerbread Mickys at Main Street Bakery and told the cm I was taking them home. She wrapped each one in layers of paper and placed them in a box. They made it home, intact in my carry on.

I put bakery items in my carry-on and prepackaged goodies in my checked luggage. I always bring a few small Tupperware containers with me so the soft items (cupcakes, brownies, etc) don't get squished during transport.

On our last trip, I had like 30 snack credits left over. I went to the confectionery in MK the night before and they boxed up cake pops, krispie treats, cookies, etc. I just put them into a shopping bag and carried them onto the plane.

We always bring home some of our favorite Disney snacks! Over the years we have brought back: fudge, rice krispie treats, school bread, cupcakes, cookies.

Never had a problem. Items from Goofy's Candy travel especially well, since they will box them up for you. We then just throw everything in a Disney bag and carry it on the plane.

A few cupcakes had some frosting get a bit smushed, but other than that, everything traveled well.

We never had a problem with the TSA. Just put the bag through the scanner with our purses and shoes and stuff.

OCD'er here.

I always bring gallon zip lock bags for treats, and pack carefully.

I suitcase them, never carryon. My spouse likes the krispy treats and the caramel apples of all varieties travelled fine.

:goodvibes

Like others, I package the soft, bakery type items in my carry on or carry them in a Disney bag straight onto the plane. Never a problem! I pack the packaged items in my suitcase that's checked. I always take a plastic shoe box sized Sterlite container packed with peanut butter crackers, oatmeal, cereal bars, etc. before the trip. We eat everything for breakfast during the trip. Then my box is empty and I can pack items in it to go back home.
