If at possible I would stay on Universal Property the Days you do these parks. You get Front of the Line on the rides, which make it sooo nice. But your kids will be spoiled in that they will not wait in lines , so at WDW they will.

I don't have kids. We are going on a weekday.
And the onsite hotels will cost $200+ per night where my CBR at Disney is about $125. I don't feel like moving.
We will go in the middle of our trip-either Wed. or Thursday; these are the slowest days and give us a break. We always eat at Fultons afterwards. IOA is a blast-Disney really doesn't have any thrill rides that compare. Our son is a teenager so that does make a difference.
We go to Universal first. Universal has its plusses, but it just isn't Disney. Once I'm on property, I don't want to think about leaving. Universal after Disney would be a letdown; before Disney it is a warm-up.
I am planning on going to Universal/IOA during the middle of our trip to WDW also. My GF and I will be going Sept 22-Oct 1 and will have 10 days in Disney. What I am planning to do is visit the Disney parks - take a couple of days for Universal and or Sea World (Tues and Wed) and then Disney to wrap up the trip. The reason I am putting it in the middle is so we do not get bored (as if that is even possible in Disney) or the novelty wear off. I have been to Disney 20x over the years and never to IOA so it will be cool to see something new - even if it is not Disney. No worries though - WDW will definitely get the majority of our time...
