55,500 RCI points???

What does this mean if one person has "55,500 BI-ANNUAL RCI POINTS (EVEN YEARS)
Converted from week 4"

Thanks for any and all info.

Are you buying, or renting?

If you are buying, you really really really want to take your time, and learn all you can before you buy anything. It is super-easy to buy a timeshare. It's super-hard to sell one.

It's an add on Ebay...I was just wondering what that amount of points means.

I don't think that timeshares are in our immediate future but I wanted to know more.

There's no simple answer to "what those points mean". It really depends on how you use them. TUG (www.tug2.net) would be a good place to learn more.

That would basically get you a moderate 2br week in a lot of places. It wouldn't get you peak season in Orlando in most resorts.

As mentioned above, there are lots of ways to maximize the points and the two websites mentioned are full of people that know them.

It depends on how you wish to use them as you can get multiple weeks if you are able to make reservation less than 45 days out at a RCI Weeks resort as opposed to a RCI Points resorts. RCI Points resorts keep their points during this period but a RCI Weeks resort can be had for 9000 RCI Points or less plus the exchange fee if booked less than 45 days out rather than the standard grid which would be used if booked more than 45 days out. The standard grid for the same room might cost 50,000, 60,000 or whatever number of points for that size unit and location. In general, if using a RCI Points resort, probably a 1-bedroom most of the year with the exception of peak periods or a 2 bedroom during less busy periods. The actual point value will depend on the date and location.

OH, the even year part means that you are given a new basket of points every 2 year on the even years. As an example odd year 1 you would get 0 points, year 2 you would get 55,000 points, year 3 0 points, year 4 55,000 points, etc. You don't have to use all your points in the year as you can bank them one year (but only banked once).

Funny story- my aunt "won" the RCI timeshare in her divorce (20 years ago). Her and her ex had bought a one bedroom the 52nd week of the year in St. Maartin when they first built the resort.

For those who don't know, the 52nd week is around Christmas/New Years (depending on how the week falls). It's the hottest week of the year to have.

Once in awhile my aunt thinks about selling it but it's "worthless" to sell so she has given the timeshare as a gift some years (she is only paying maintenance on it, a few hundred dollars a year). My family has gone down to St. Maartin twice now- nothing beats free flight (frequent flier miles from charging my college tuition) and free hotel for a week where there is great food and gorgeous beaches!

gjw007...

What are the exchange fees like for the exchange fees if you book less than 45 days out at weeks resort?

Is there a list somewhere to see which resorts are "Weeks" and which ones are points in Orlando? Do you have any examples?

We are always taking our vacations in the off-season and can always be flexible so 45 days ahead sounds great.

Honestly, if you are serious, you REALLY need to read TUG, timeshareforums, or preferably both.

Most importantly, take your time. It's very easy to buy a timeshare. Once you own it, it is yours to keep (and pay annual fees on) until you sell it. And, it's very hard to sell one.

I think you can still log onto www.rci.com and see the resort directory even if you're not a member. The points resorts have the special RCI Points logo on the main page.

The exchange fee is somewhere around $164 for a Weeks resort. Don't recall the exact amount.

Yes you can see the resort directory without logging in for weeks.
The exchange fee is $164 for the weeks. I don't know the cost for points since we are weeks members.

Not really serious but interested in learning...I'm off to READ tug...:)
