?? for those who have used sleeper car on Auto Train ??

Is there a lock on the door of each sleeper compartment? Is there even a door? Can't tell much from the pictures I've been able to find. If there is a lock, do they give you a key when you board.

We will be going August 18 and I am already having anxiety attacks over this.

Hi,

it's been about two years since we were on the AutoTrain. We had a deluxe bedroom sleeping car. If I rember correctly there was a sliding metal door that only locked from the inside by turning the latch. There was no key.

The door has a latch which you can fasten from the inside, but there is no way to lock the door from the outside. I'm never had this be a problem, though, and I've left expensive cameras and laptops in the room without worrying about it. Do keep this in mind (put most items in your luggage, consider keeping purses, wallets, jewelry with you, etc.) , but don't let it bother you in the slightest. Remember the rooms are small, so you don't want to have much there anyway. Also, you are on a moving train, so it's not like someone can just run off with your whole suitcase.

Older sleeper car rooms from the 1950's (the last ones were just retired last fall!) didn't all have doors. A very heavy curtain seperated the room from the aisle, which worked just as well, but would probably make us feel uncomfortable today.

Thanks for the answers. As long as I can lock the door at night I will feel better. I usually camp in a soft side camper and usually only panic the first night. Guess I'll be OK.

Oh yes you can definitely lock the door at night. We were in a family sleeper car on the lower level.
