I am going to Disney for 14 days. I have bought a 32gb card and a 16gb card. I'm sure i'll be snap happy can anyone confirm from their experience that this amount of storage is going to be enough? thanks

Just checked a couple of trips last year, both were around 10gb each but we have been 32 times, I am sure if I were going for the first time it would be far more than that.

10gb was after deleting all the poor pics when I got home, I don't waste time on holiday going thru them.

Last trip, 3 weeks, I came back with 10.800 pics on the DSLR, plus a rough 500 on my wife's point and shoot. If you multiply those figures by an average JPG size shot by your camera, you'll get a rough estimate of how much storage space you might need

I must admit that I was less snap-happy than on previous trips, but I also often shoot at 3 or 4 fps, so that's more pictures than one would normally take.

what will make a difference is wether you use your camera for movies (if it's able to do it). Video will be way more data hungry.

A word of advice : if you have a means of backup, don't hesitate (I use a portable hard-drive connected to my android tablet)
Storing everything on a single SD card, and relying on it to live through a Florida trip is a leap of faith.

ETA : just checked the properties of my october 2013 trip folder, and all accounted for (vids + pics) it's 60.5Gb

You can NEVER have too much photo storage!! My suggestion would be to buy some smaller, less expensive cards, and keep with you just in case. I'm sure you can also buy in the parks, but be prepared to pay more. Enjoy and post some pics upon your return!!!

Cheers!

A high quality 32GB Class 10 (UHS-1) cards can usually be found for about $15 (including shipping) these days. Sometimes, as low as $7 per card when bought in multi packs.

Brands that I recommend (In order from fastest to slowest, although all are good):
Wintec
Transcend
Sony

I recommend avoiding Sandisk completely, they are the only cards that I have ever had fail on me and I have had multiple of theirs fail. Although, they have never failed to the point that I couldn't recover the photos, just to the point that I could write to them any longer.

There are a few other brands that I have used in the past, but don't currently use, because the ones I recommend are inexpensive and reliable. That's not to say that the other brands are bad, just that I don't know and don't want to risk it.

So, bottom line is I bring enough memory cards that I can kill all of the batteries I have with me and I download the files to my laptop each night. I generally will have near 500MB of photos and videos by the end of the trip.

thanks all just bought another 2 x 32gb so that should be plenty. haven't got a device to back them up unfortunately until im home

I back mine up to a netbook each evening and sometimes will also let this back up during the night to my server at home
Cloud storage is another option. Have a look at Dropbox GoogleDrive or Flikr for starters. :thumbsup2
I wouldn't rely purely on storing photos on the camera card. :sad2:

I've got dropbox but no way of uploading the pixs from camera card until home

Better to have too much than not enough!

I had a 32gb card and took 4 x 2gb cards too, just in case. Shot lots of HD movie clips and had plenty of room left on the 32gb. For our 17 days I had 3800 photos (which I am still sorting through!). Maybe check your camera setting too? I kept mine at 14 megapixels so I could crop away without losing clarity, but dropping to a lower resolution would give you more room on your card :)

Assuming you are shooting in jpg format you'll be fine. Piglet raises a valid point for consideration with the mention of video though - that tends to eat storage. You could take a portable hard drive if you are taking a laptop with you and back them up and clear the cards every night.

I am taking 8 x 16G cards with me this year and will possibly fill those, but I will still be backing up daily as I usually do.

I've just seen that you have no way of uploading while away so I would recommend getting more, smaller cards, no more than 8GB each and using those. At least if you get a (rare but it happens) corrupt card, you don't lose everything.

i took 5 smaller memory cards had 2 8gb and then others, also took 2 cameras a disposable waterproof camera and also had photopass plus , dh had his phone too that had about 8000 photos on

Hiya, as we were on about storage, ive been told about the eye fi cards you can get for your camera, which uploads via wifi to mobile or cloud, now most of the park has wifi, maybe an option, ive not used them yet. Anybody else used them?

I have 2 x 32GB for SLR and an 8GB for point and shoot. My advice would be stick with what you have as they are dirt cheap in the likes of Walmart over there if you require additional.

They are, if you can get to one, but be aware that the Photo Centers in the parks no longer sell SD cards. When they did, they wanted about $20 for a 4G one!

If you don't have a care and aren't planning a supermarket trip there, I'd buy more here if you think you may need more. I have just ordered a few more Sandisk SDHC cards last night, as well as some flash drives on offer for £4.99 each (16GB)

ive now got 3 x 32gb, an 8 gb, and a 16 gb!

im thinking of buyiong a very cheap laptop or notebook so I can backup daily when there
