We are thinking of doing an Aug wedding b/c
1. Free Dining
2. kids are off from school
3. value season

I am just terrified that we will get a hurricane to the point that everything is closed, what would Disney do if this happened? I know its only happened a handful of times, but we have no luck.

It must be so hot too in a big dress and tuxes/suits.

Am I crazy to do this?
How were your Aug/Sept wedding?
O we are planning WP and either citricos or attic, so at least we are indoors, but as long as there's no weather issues, we'd like pics outside.

I really don't think you have anything to worry about as far as hurricanes go. Through rough storms, Disney, never, EVER closes. We haven't even had hurricanes through here since 2005. It will probably rain in Aug/Sept as the summer is the rainy season, but it *usually* only lasts about 20 minutes, if that. Half the time it rains while it's sunny! And it typically rains in the afternoon, so you probably won't be able to avoid that, but I think the only thing weather-wise you'd have to worry about is the heat and humidity. I remember I asked my coordinator a while ago about what happens if there's a hurricane and Disney had to suddenly close, and I cannot for the life of me remember what her answer was, but I know it's nothing to worry about, otherwise it would've stuck in my mind. You can always ask your planner if you're really that worried, but like I said, I really don't think you have anything to worry about. :goodvibes

I can't really help with the hurricane season..but I got married this past june and I can tell you that it was very hot and sunny that day with no clouds. The only time I got hot was near the end of walking around with Randy for pictures..I was so preoccupied with being a newlywed and walking around Disney in a wedding gown that I think I forgot about how hot it really is. but that could just be me..:rotfl:

We just got married in August, so I can tell you about our experience. We had to get married in the summer so that everyone could come. I was nervous with it being hurricane season but Disney is almost never hit. I had heard there was one year way back when they did close the parks but they had entertainment in the hotels and really took care of guests, so I wasn't that worried.

The weather turned out to be perfect, beautiful blue skies and no rain all day, but it was very very hot. We only had our BP take a few pictures outside, they were out there no more than 15 minutes. DH and I took a bunch outside and it was definitely hot and you feel it, but we were fine. Everything was indoors so our guests didn't have to brave the heat.

Another benefit, it's value season for Disney so that means lower hotel rates for your guests. :thumbsup2

The parks were not super crowded but as we got later into the week it seemed more crowded. The crowds were still less than when we've gone in June. Most of our guests were not on the dining plan, but you definitely need to make ADR's, people that didn't think about this had a tough time getting a reservation anywhere. I did warn everyone in our newsletters and on our website, but what can I say? People are lazy.

So, I definitely don't regret having the wedding in August and we generally go in June and it is pretty hot then anyway. I feel like when it's 95 degrees it doesn't really matter so much if it's a few degrees hotter than that anyway.

I got married at the end of August and we were so lucky! We avoided hurricane Fay & Gustav! That being said.. it is also very rare.

I live in FL and as scary as hurricanes are, they're not as bad as everyone has made it out to be. I also used to work at WDW... and they did close the parks once.. I dont remember when it was but they closed early b/c of hurricane warnings.

It does rain almost every day in the summer... but it will usually rain between 2 - 4 pm for about an hour. It is very hot and humid.. and the humidity is brutal right after it rains.

Our wedding was inside. WP & ADH. It was hot outside when we were going from point A to point B but it was still awesome. I wouldn't have changed it for the world.

We got married in August, in between 3 hurricanes! Our outside ceremony was moved in, and it was very hot. I am not going to lie to you, Orlando does get hurricanes, but not like the coasts. We left our honeymoon early because Orlando was getting a direct hit. Disney was preparing for the storm. I can't exactly remember how much was closed. I don't know what they would do if your wedding was actually the day of a hurricane and things were closed. It is Disney, so I am sure they would reschedule once things opened, but I don't know if you would be able to have all your plans excecuted, since someone else may have scheduled that venue for that day. That is really something you have to talk to your planner about. I will say Disney does not close long in such a case.

We got married in September of this year - the weather was beautiful for the entire 16 days of our trip, besides 2 days in the middle while we were on our cruise (out in the middle of the ocean - nowhere near Disney). It was pretty intensely hot on our wedding day - the only point that it was nearly unbearable was towards the end of the hour we spent with Randy walking around BW for pictures...but it was around noon in Florida in the "summer" - we kind of expected it! My dress was hot, but got MUCH better once I ditched the crinoline (right after Randy was done with pics)! Adrian said his tux was hot, but not unbearably so...

We chose September so that our guests could have free dining, and we've always found it to be low crowd volumes - we don't regret the decision for a minute...

I will say however - I was at Disney during Hurricane Fay, and that was a frustrating week....torrential rain for 5 days of our 8 day trip....it was a total bummer...but as others have stated that is very rare.
