My daughter recently came out w/ my full support. I've had several dissers post that they didn't have support from their moms, dads, or family when they came out or even now. So I decided, I'm adopting. I got this idea, but I want to know what everyone thinks. I'd love to start sending b-day & holiday greetings to those of you who might not have family who is supportive. Everyone deserves a family who loves them for who they are. Please PM me if you'ld like to be on the list to receive greetings or if you'ld like to help me send them. I'd really like to know what everyone thinks?:confused3

That is about the nicest thing I've ever read! What an amazing person you are!!

I think it's an incredible idea.

I don't know if you've ever seen Queer as Folk? The actress who played Michael's mother, Debbie (Sharon Gless) said that at one "meet the stars" event she was at a young man came up to her, hugged her and sobbed and sobbed... she had been a "mother" to him via the show. The damage that we do to people, especially the youngest ones, when we don't accept them for who they are is immeasurable.

If I may suggest you contact your PFLAG chapter and see if they can put you in touch with folks who would really benefit from your compassion and generosity?

Take care now. Thank you for being a wonderful person.

Oh! and DVC~OKW~96, thanks for the great idea:

There is a local chapter that was having trouble getting a spot to meet at the local high school, so they had asked if they could meet here at the church where I work.... I know that they managed to get a spot at the HS (which is better for them since they are targeting HS students, etc) so I am going to try to reach them now and see if there is anything I can do for them.

How cool are you.:worship::worship::worship::worship:

Just a thought if someone reading this wants support, but is not comfortable posting on this board regarding your family support you can always PM the OP and share info.

Then again, everyone here seems so friendly and supportive.

OK, now you've made me cry...

This one of the nicest things I've read in a long time.

I just saw this and omg! I have tears in my eyes. Hugs to the OP! I would love to offer love and support here too :grouphug:

Hey Mom,
I think that is an awesome idea. I'd love to help you with it.

This just might have to become a sticky thread. :thumbsup2

OMG, this is the best post I've read on the DIS.

Count us in! We'd love to be adoptive parents. We had two grown boys, now just one due to cancer in 2006. We would love to have our family grow. We have two gay relatives and would love to have anyone who would like, to come on in to our family. Again, count us in.

:thumbsup2

there's nothing sadder than than someone taking such a brave step as coming out and then getting no love or support in return. thank you, OP!

I'm the one w/ tears in my eyes. Thanks for all the love to me & my idea. If you know of anyone that could use a little love please PM me. i'm not sure if we're gonna get anyone to ask for the help.

What a wonderful idea! If only everyone was as accepting and kind the world would be a much better place!:grouphug:

I am lucky to have an accepting mother, but I live in fear of my extended family ever finding out and disowning me...

Your daughter is very blessed!

If you are reading these posts and you are hesitant to reply on the thread to ask for support, please, oh please, PM the Original Poster, there seems to be oodles of love and support, take the chance!

This really is a beautiful idea.

PFLAG would be a great way to find people in need of family. Also, if you let your DD know that you're open to this, she may have friends with nowhere else to go that she'll bring home over the years.
