...have any of you heard anything yet? The last I heard was they were going to start calling previous employees towards the end of August to the first part of September. In my area we were about a month behind other states, as far as the hiring process. So I was wondering if anyone has heard anything yet?

hello fellow Montanan. I too was wondering if I was going to get called back. I had expressed interest and my CL said he would call if anything came available, but I haven't heard a thing. I did get my termination papers in July I think it was that said they got things done faster than they thought they would, so maybe everything is done??

There was something in my Classifieds that said they were hiring people interested in the interviewing process of people having "trouble" filling out questionnaires. I didn't want to do that; I had enough trouble with people getting the GPS spot here. I did want to do some OLQs though which is what I thought they would be doing in September. I'll post if I hear anything.

Hey thanks. Do believe our OLQ's were completed my CLs and ACLs. But last I heard they were going to start hiring in the fall to get ready for 2010. I remember people on the boards talking about training and going out to practice on the last day of training. After I read about thatit took 3 more weeks to get a call here so I know we are behind everyone else.

We had a call last night at 9:00 pm!!!! She was CLEARLY in India. I was NOT in the mood to verify everything my DH had filled out. If they outsourced the calls, I think some newspaper reporter somewhere could get a pulitzer writing the story.

Both my DH and I worked for the Census in March/April. I have been told that September is when they will be hiring again. I also read something in the newspaper about the hand held computers not living up to expectations and that the new work would not be done on them -- on my.

If I hear something I'll let you know.

Nothing here in So Cal either. With my luck I figure they'll call while I'm on vacation in WDW. I had a lot of trouble with my HHC last time. 2 days after they finally fixed it 1/2 our team was laid off due to the work getting done too fast (and that was with all the problems with HHC-imagine how soon we would have been laid off if the HHCs were working!) 10-12 weeks of work was only 4.

But that's okay I actually had a job come to my door (well almost) they actually called me first and then I went across the street to discuss. Pays a little more than the census too! Plus my main business looks to be picking up-construction plans. Maybe I can do Discovery Cove this year!

They are currently doing the Group Quarter phase and the next one is the Update/Leave. (Very few people are employed for these phases - from what I saw.) Then hits the BIG one - Non Response/Follow Up. So, hopefully you will be getting calls soon. Goodluck!

Thanks for the reply. I managed to get a hold of a local office. They have staffed the offices with previous employees. I stated on my exit interview that I wanted field work not office work so I knew I wasn't going to be called for the first round. He did say that they are starting callbacks within a 2-3 weeks. Hopefully it will be soon.

I do have a bit of info. I thought I would pass it on since there was a few of us that worked the Census last year. I called my local office and asked them to check and see if I was in their computer. They had someone from Admin. call me back to verify. She said it wasn't too common, that people aren't in their database, but it has happened before. She told me it was a good idea to check.

Yeah! I just got the call! I have been hired again. :thumbsup2This time as an enumerator. Training isn't until first week in May. 4 days. Very close to home. $16.50/hr plus 50 cents a mile. They are asking for a min. 30 hour commitment. The job is expected to last 8-12 weeks. :goodvibes

I answered all the questions yes, and so , just like before, I've been hired. If you get the call you will need to say yes to all questions or you may not get the job. It is an interview they are conducting and they will tell you during the call if you've been hired.

Funny thing is the person who called me didn't know I had worked for the census before. I did Quality Control last year (we followed the enumerators) to check on what they did. It was pretty interesting, but frustrating out in the field-many problems with our HHC (Hand held computers) and the job only lasted 3 1/2 weeks instead of 6-10.

So, be patient, looks like the calls are being made. I know in our area they are still doing tests and taking applications. My DM and DSis are planning on applying.

It'll be interesting to go through the training again. :confused3 I hope that it's not EXACTLY the same training I already. I may find it hard to stay awake-but I know I'll ace the test at the end.

This time we will be spending a little more time talking to residents-asking a few questions, etc. Last time we just verified addresses and number of residential units.

YEAH! (Maybe I'll be able to save some $ for our next WDW vacation!:cloud9:;):cheer2::grouphug:

Thats awesome, Congrats!
Can you give a brief description of whats involved in the Field Work? Is that literally calling on residents at their homes?

Well last time I was in Quality Control meaning we followed after the enumerators and verified their work with confirming addresses and map spots (using GPS on HHC) We were directed to knock on their doors, wait a few seconds, do our map spot and move on. If the resident answered their door we would confirm their address and ask if they had any other residences on their property (units, etc.). That was all.

This time I'm assuming we will be calling on residents who don't return their census form and help fill out their forms. The man who interviewed, and hired me, on the phone asked if I would have a problem asking residents personal questions (like income, etc.) Of course I said no.

But yes, you will be required to knock on doors and talk to people. Last time I found most people were easy to talk to. Only a few were guarded and a little more resistant. But that's to be expected, I guess. You will be carrying an official pouch with Census logo on it as well as showing your i.d. badge so they know you are "official"

DH & I were both called this week by the Census and rehired (we both worked last year). We hired as enumerators and go to training on March 24-26th.

Unlike Disneydaz, we did not have any kind of telephone interview nor were we asked any questions. We were just asked if we wanted to work for the Census again.

They didn't give us a start date, but I assume it will be after the April 1st Census Day.

Congrats! :goodvibes Your training is a lot sooner than mine. But if I remember correctly last time you started in your area before we did here in Cal.

Those are the training dates nationwide for group quarters enumeration. You will Start work on the 29th. Between the 29th and 31st is when soup kitchens, homeless shelters and the counting of the homeless is done and then the rest of group quarters will be done.

Here is my quick update. I was trained as an enumerator the week of FEb 22. I have been working every day since then. It would be good except the training started off very bad. It was announced that we were the "extra, add ons and replacements" we were told that we were not needed but they had to place us. I was so upset. I worked my b*tt off for them last year. I scored 100% on the test and a recomendation from my last CL to train to move up. I am mostly upset that I am the only enumerator (out of about 200) that is a rehire. All of the other workers were regular and get to enumerate the city and surrounding areas...I am in the sticks. Anyway at least I am working and I just keep thinking about my WDW trip in Dec and the Wilderness Lodge...that gets me through.
