We're leaving out of Buffalo. I would like to pack snacks etc. Questions, I can fly with bottled water right? It has to be in checked luggage? What about juice boxes? Can I bring these over or should I be stopping by a grocery store in the US first? I'm thinking of things like granola/fruit bars, pudding cups, juice, water, bagels, PB &J . Is all of this ok?

anything is fair game as long as it's in checked luggage. pudding cups and juice boxes won't be allowed on carry ons.

if you're short on space, definitely find a Publix grocer (or wal-mart) for that matter and buy your food there. especially with the dollar we have now, cheap eats!!

You cannot take a bottle of water through airport security as carry on. You CAN purchase it for take on once you have crossed the security threshold. I would assume this to be true for juice boxes etc. I have never flown with tetra packs in my luggage because of the pressure and I am always afraid they would explode or leak. I always put anything that could be messy into the big ziplocks just in case.

Last year we flew down ( from Toronto) and I packed some juice boxes and fruit cups in the little tins. I put them in a zip lock baggie and then in a small rectangular Ziplock container that I bought at the grocery store. I got for a couple of bucks. The containers held a lot and there was no leakage or squished stuff. I also put snacks in these containers like cheese crackers and rice krispies. Everything was fine!

Make sure you check your airline for "per bag" weight limits! Just so you don't get any surprises at the airport! ;)

I would love to be a fly on the wall if they ever opened my luggage for screening! Last trip I had one entire suitcase that was "food related." We took a small coffee maker (Wal Mart $14) because Pop Century doesn't have them in the rooms, coffee, splenda packets, a small kettle (Wal Mart $10 or less) instant oatmeal, instant cream of wheat, dry cereal, bowls, spoons, granola bars, etc. etc. I just left the coffee maker there because I didn't want to lug it back (and I needed more room for souvenirs!).

Funny story... one of our trips last year, I had the checked baggage stuffed with jars of baby food, cereal, etc. Our bag cleared no problem in Ottawa (she jokingly asks if I've packed enough baby food!), but we had a connection in Philly. When ME delivered our bags, I noticed the locks had been opened by TSA - and inside along with the little card saying "we looked inside" was a hand written note wishing our little one a magical vacation. I can only imagine what they must see on a daily basis!
