For those that have had grocery deliveries to their rooms

I am really interested in possibly just ordering online and having some grocery type items delivered to our room but I was wondering how the delivery worked. Are you stuck waiting in your room for them to deliver or will they just leave it with the desk downstairs and you can pick it up when you return?

I don't want to be stuck waiting for a delivery so I wanted to check and see how it has worked for those that have done it.

ETA-I see Vons is free the first time but requires $49 minimum..does anywhere else deliver free (maybe for new customers) with a lower minimum purchase?

Hello!
I have used Raleys several times for grocery delivery.
You simply order online, and tell them what time to deliver.
They are "Johnny on the spot" regarding their delivery times.
I could order what I wanted, and the first time had free delivery.

Here is the catch...
The Hotel will call your room and tell you that your delivery guy has arrived.
What they DO NOT tell you is that you need to physically go down to the walkway directly outside the hotel (in my case this was the Disneyland Hotel) and "claim" your goods.
The delivery guy will then haul your purchases up to your room for you from that point after both of you have checked your inventory form (make sure you print this from online).

The first time, after receiving the call, we waited and waited for the guy to bring our stuff to our room :headache:. We were doing the impatient dance because we wanted to get into the Park. Little did we know, the delivery guy was doing the impatient dance also :headache:, waiting for us to come down to him. We made up for it with a nice tip. Live and learn!

We always order creamer for our coffee :surfweb:, milk & munchies for the morning :hourglass, and snackies for before bed. This saves us a bunch of money on food.

Hope this helped!

I think it really depends on where you are staying. The DL hotels have a policy that went into effect a few years ago that they would not sign for your groceries, which was a pain since it meant my husband had to stay behind in our room and wait for the delivery.

We ordered from Vons again, this time we are staying at HoJO and the front desk told me we don't need to be around or even checked in and they will sign for the delivery and take to our room...

So I would suggest you call your hotel front desk and find out their policy on grocery deliveries.

We have stayed at the GCH a few times and Vons delivery has been spot on and have not had any lost time due to waiting for things. They won't sign for booze though.

We sat by the pool at PPH with a lady who rang up one of the shops and ordered some beer, snacks etc. 20 minutes later she was downstairs picking the stuff up. I can't remember the shop she bought from but she got the brochure from the guest services desk at PPH.

So I'm going to be staying at the Hilton Homewood Suites in a week. I'm curious about grocery delivery as well, how much do you have to spend etc. Well I just called my hotel and they do it for free! All you do us fill out the list in the room and they'll go pick it up for you!? No service fee at all! *

I am staying at PPH and now I am really curious who that lady called and how fast she got her stuff. Maybe if I call PPH they could tell me?

Another question I thought of after posting was how far in advance you needed to order. Around here Safeway (Vons in SoCal) used to need about 24 hours unless you paid an additional fee so I was curious for those that ordered what was the timeline between your order and delivery.

We didn't plan on any booze..just some basics like apples, bananas, bottled water..etc.

RI Maingate does the same thing.

We always order a week ahead and made a couple of changes 24 hours out, can not comment on shorter times lines than that..great service for us.

We always have Von's deliver and have never had a problem. We've had them deliver to HoJo's, the Residence Inn Maingate, and the Marriott Courtyard. I always schedule the delivery to happen just prior to my arrival and everything has always gone as planned. The groceries are either already in my room or waiting for me at the desk when I check in to the hotel. I have a delivery scheduled 12 days from now and hope I'm not jinxing myself. :) I highly recommend Von's grocery delivery service. It's so convenient.

Yeh I'm sorry, she offered us the brochure and I had a look but I don't remember the name of the place and we didn't keep it because we were going home the next day. If I'd found out about it earlier we would definately have used the service. She had already ordered from them once. They had package deals for breakfast of bread, cold meats, cereals, milk etc etc. It included a cooler, I assume only a polystyrene one, but they seemed to have thought of everything. Being from Australia I have no idea if the prices were cheap or were inflated to include the delivery charge but ifirc there was no delivery charge on top of the quoted price if you spent a certain amount, like $20 or $30.

I'd try ringing guest services at PPH or google 'free groceries to disney hotels' or something. :) Sorry I can't be more help.

I appreciate the info :) I had no idea that was a possibility so I will be giving them a call sometime tomorrow and see what they can tell me. I am guessing there is a certain amount of inflation price wise and SoCal has higher prices than what I pay here but I anticipate that to some extent.

We have used Vons approximately 8 times now and most recently a week and a half ago. We order the groceries about three weeks out to secure our delivery time. We do not order alcohol so we don't have to be at the room when it is delivered. The bell desk receives our order and when we check in or get back to our room the bell service brings it to our room. This time we were missing a box of granola bars and have only had one issue out of the 8 times we ordered. We used to use Albertson's but after a complete mess of a delivery we opted not to use them again.
Grocery delivery is the best and if you are staying in the villas for us it is a must. We eat all our meals in and enjoy doing so. :thumbsup2

If you decide to order alcohol, you need to be present when the delivery truck gets to the hotel as they will not leave the order with the bell desk.

Please let us know what you find out -- store name, telephone number, minimum order amount, etc, etc. I would LOVE to have an order delivered our first day there....so we can have all our goodies for the whole trip ready to go :) :) Thanks in advance -- and for such a great thread! :worship:

I called PPH this morning and the CM told me that there are 2 options..one is the one many of us discussed to have Ralphs or Vons deliver to you at the hotel. She said you do not have to present for those deliveries and that they will leave them at the desk.

She said another option is something the hotel uses called Wonderland Market and you place your order when you are in your room and settled and you do need to be present for that order. I am speculating this is the service a pp saw someone use as it sounds like the turnaround is fairly quick.

We always order through Von's and have never had any problems. We either stay at GCH or DLH. At GCH, it's not an issue because they'll sign and hold the groceries for you. We've only stayed at DLH in the summer. We just planned on hanging out at the pool during the delivery window. They would call my cell and I'd go meet them and bring the groceries up to the room. We are staying at the DLH in December so someone will have to hang out in the hotel and wait.

I wouldn't worry about the $49 minimum. It adds up quickly. And you save that alone by not having to buy waters in the parks. I order things like granola bars, individual packs of cheese-its, etc. Anything that's left at the end of the trip, I throw in a backpack and bring home. The only thing I've had to throw away are waters and bananas.

If they leave them at the desk, then what happens to any items that need a refer? Or you just do not order those items?

We set up 2-3 weeks in advance to secure the time slot, then change as needed up until 24 hours before (like Jack). GCH keeps the cold stuff cold, and when we check in, they bring everything up for us (we arrive about 2 1/2 hours after the last delivery on the weekend).

I absolutely agree that $49 is nothing. Buy bottled water and a 2.5 gallon with a spigot, then refill. Get snacks, fresh fruit, milk, and any beverages (so expensive in the parks). You will end up saving so much. I guess it's easy for us to reach the $150 minimum for Vons (after the first delivery) since we stay so long.
