May I ask how much you paid? Well I suppose I just did but would you mind telling me?I assume you didn't arrange this in advance, you just took care of it after your flight ~ right? I'd feel comfortable driving from LGB to DLR, maybe avoid the freeway...
Really? I only flew out of LGB once, so I didn't pay attention to see if there were rental car agencies there. This is interesting...did you just walk on up to Alamo and had no problems?
OK...I just plugged in our arrival date into Alamo.com to compare renting a car for one day (4 hours) vs. a car service from LGB to DLR, and it was $90...to pick up and drop off on the same day. That doesn't even include taxes or insurance.
I'd love to hear how you are getting a rental for less than a car service. What's your secret?![]()
I have no problem giving out the price. I actually got the idea of renting the car from someone here on the boards.
I booked the car through Costco Travel site to get the Costco discount, which does not require you to have a Costco card. The car was $45 with tax when we booked it. Total ended up being $50.14 with gas. We picked up the car at 4 p.m. at LGB and returned it to DTD at 8 a.m. the next morning.
I have a spreadsheet that I tracked all the possible transportation costs on. I am a massive planner.
A taxi is $45 flat rate to DL, plus tip. Every shuttle service was over $80 for 2 people, even with discounts. Car services were all over $100.The drive is only 20-25 minutes (15-20 if you take freeway), but we took longer and stopped at Jack in the Box (hubby’s obsession that they don’t have here in SLC) and Trader Joe’s (my obsession). This was really the best way for us, as we could stop for groceries and such without paying a car service price.
