For those that fly into Long Beach...

To get from LGB to our hotel and back to LGB we use a car service, he's a sweet little guy from Cambodia - our guy is Ron and his business card says VIP Service (Kim Sontha Transportation). The number is (562) 396-8106 (company number) OR the number where he has always answered is 562-895-6713. We've had a Toyota Highlander & Lexus SUV for our past trips. We pay $45 each way.

For 4 people, I would do a taxi. It is a flat rate of $45 from LGB to the Disneyland area. Supershuttle is $35 for first person + $9 for each additional so you would be paying more for supershuttle.

Do you arrange for a taxi prior to or just find one when you get to Long Beach? We have been thinking about Super Shuttle, but a taxi probably makes more sense for us as well.

When you walk out of the terminal, you will see the taxi stand across the way. Last time I was there, they had a large sign showing the flat rates to different areas. This airport is very small and very easy to navigate.

We will have 2 adults, 2 kids, 1 car seat, 4 large suitcases, and 1 double jogging stroller....will we be able to get ourselves and all our stuff in a taxi?

Does he charge a flat rate or is it based on the number of people?

They do have taxi vans which sounds like that is what you need. They have a person there to monitor the taxis so just let him know you need the van type.

Last time we went we had 2 adults, 2 teens and 2 kids in car seats. We all had luggage and a HUGE double stroller and it fit in the van type taxi just fine. If there is not a van there when you arrive they will call one in for you and it will still be the same price. On the way back to the airport it is metered so it does cost a bit more.

I just phoned and spoke to DisneyMomma's guy. He sound real nice. Hopefully he will come through for us!

DisneyMomma -- just out of curiosity, how did you find him?

This sounds like a good way to go, btw...I think we will give him a call when we fly into LGB for our trip. How far in advance do you typically book him?

It sounds crazy, but we have found it cheaper to get a one-day car rental from Alamo at the airport and drop it off in DTD. It cost less than any of the shuttles or taxis, plus we were able to make a few stops on our way to the hotel.

I'm pretty sure it was someone here - we've been "using" him for a couple years now. I call him about when we're about a week away from our visit.

ETA ~ yes I "heard" about Ron here - from DISer colbybug. *I did some investigating **I used the search function for Sontha.

May I ask how much you paid? Well I suppose I just did but would you mind telling me? :flower3: I assume you didn't arrange this in advance, you just took care of it after your flight ~ right? I'd feel comfortable driving from LGB to DLR, maybe avoid the freeway...

Really? I only flew out of LGB once, so I didn't pay attention to see if there were rental car agencies there. This is interesting...did you just walk on up to Alamo and had no problems?

OK...I just plugged in our arrival date into Alamo.com to compare renting a car for one day (4 hours) vs. a car service from LGB to DLR, and it was $90...to pick up and drop off on the same day. That doesn't even include taxes or insurance.

I'd love to hear how you are getting a rental for less than a car service. What's your secret? :goodvibes

If you decide on super shuttle you can use discount code z4m3d for a 10-15% discount.

Shannon - we drove from LGB to DLR using surface streets and it was super easy. I am pretty sure we drove Katella the whole way. (looks like it starts out as Willow St. and then turns into Katella.) You pass a bunch of grocery stores along the way so if you want to pick up some snacks or water bottles it is super easy. On a Sat. morning it took us about 25 minutes with minimal traffic.

For our family we like having a car available to us and use it frequently when we are in Anaheim. We've gotten some good car rentals on Priceline for a pretty low price. We've even taken a shuttle to the car place and gotten a better deal, but the last couple of times we used Enterprise since they had the best deal and they're on site. :upsidedow

Oh heck yes, its so easy to drive from LB airport to DLR. You are right, you can just take Katela. Go to mapquest and find a map of the area. Just zoom down close enough so that you can see the area you need to see and bam, its right there. There are two roads I believe. They are called something else but they turn into Ball and Katela. And it really only takes like 15-20 minutes to do it unless traffic is terrible.

Yep, I just checked. When you come out of the LGB airport you can go south (turn right) on Lakewood Blvd till you hit E Willow Street which will be just past the 405. Just Turn left on E Willow St and follow it till you hit Harbor Blvd. You are at Disneyland. Or you can take E Wardlow Rd (which is pretty much just going strait as you exit the airport) There is only one way in and out of the LGB airport as far as im aware. Take E Wardlow strait (East) and it becomes Ball Rd. Just stay on this till you run into Harbor Blvd. You are at Disnyland.

I would also recomend having a car. It seems every time we go one of the kids gets sick. Last Time I was up driving around Anaheim at 3:30 am looking for a 24 hour wal mart or wallgreens or something, looking for childrens pain releiver and a heating pad. One of my girls came down with an ear infection. We had to take her to the doctor the next day. All of this would have been an even bigger pain had we not had a car available.
