I feel stupid because I know my marriage ended badly and I have found a much better man now (and everyone knows how much I adore Roger), but on the Fourth of July it will be eight years since Thom and I met and I can't help thinking of how good things were in the beginning and of how much I loved the man that I thought he was. Do any of you ever go through anything like that even though you're glad to be out of the bad parts of the marriage?

NO reason to feel stupid at all!!! I am divorced now, but I learned a lot about myself while I was with my ex (we met in 87, married in 94, divorced in 02). While I don't think he was the right person for me, I'm still glad I met him - I just should have not married him. But you learn from your mistakes, right? You're happy now, that's all that matters. I don't know anything about your story, as I'm relatively new, but I wish you and your new man the best of luck. I just wish I could find a man!! :p

when you divorce -- even if you want the divorce -- you still have to mourn for the loss of your marriage. after all you wouldn't have gotten married if there weren't good times with him, would you?

I despise my ex, but on June 28 -- our wedding anniversary -- I'm always a bit nostalgic.

Thanks, BriarRose and Adrianna. I guess I never really did the mourning thing and now that it's this time of the year, I am. I would have thought Christmas and Thanksgiving would have been hard, but they were easy. This will be my first Fourth spent without Thom (and it seems like no matter how we were getting along the rest of the year, we always had a good Fourth of July), so I hope they get easier from here on out.

I've been married for 22 years next month to the most terrific of DH's. I was married for 6+ years before DH (and he was married before, too).

If it weren't for that first marriage, I don't think I would have brought the same emotion, feelings, experience to my current marriage.

I, too, don't regret that I knew my first husband, nor that I married him, but I am glad that we're not married anymore and that I met my DH, cause it's the best now.

Nothing wrong with thinking of nice times in the past. Just don't dwell on them and realize that they ARE in the PAST. ;)

I must be one of the few people that actually went out and partied and whooped it the night that I signed the papers in court. Do I regret my divorce - NO WAY! Do I ever get in a funk wondering if I made the right decision - NO WAY! The guy was a liar and I should have seen that from the beginning - in fact he's a compulsive liar and won't get help.

Nope. I had really tough time getting a divorce from my ex because he was so controlling. It made me a stronger person to get through it and although I was saddened by all of it, I know I shouldn't have ever married him. It's just a closed chapter in my life. I do remember our wedding date but for the life of me, I can't remember when his birthday was (August 3, 4, 2nd??)). It's not important to me anymore. But then again, I've been divorced for several years and happily remarried for 14 years now.

<font color=navy>Unfortunately, the only thing good out of my marriage were Nick & Kelly. Oh, and that I got a backbone ... other than that, there is nothing I mourn, except the fact that I made the wrong decision on who to gift with my life and trust.

Despite all that ... life is good. :)

I don't think it's so much the marriage itself that I'm mourning (like I said, that got really bad) but I miss the person that I knew at first. He was romantic and had a great sense of humor and made me feel beautiful and desirable.
