For Those Mad About Disney Visa's

So, how many 'normal' people are out there, right this moment, planning their WDW vacation...at rack rates since they don't know any better? I was one at one time. My second trip, with another family, I wised up and got discounts. I can't tell you how many people don't even know there ARE discounts!! THey just toodle on over to their friendly neighborhood travel agent and pay thru the nose. I'm just happy with any discount. I have found that most of the packages that Disney offers tend to benefit Disney. The stay for 7, pay for 4 deal?? A ton of people, myself included, upgraded to a resort that was more expensive. And they didn't buy PHPs. They got the UPH that expires. They may have planned on staying for 4-5 nights but then changed to the new plan, therefor spending more for passes and food/gifts in the parks. No siree people....Disney is not giving anything away. I hope that all of you that hold the Visa card actually get something you can use, happily. Maybe BankOne/Disney will listen to you. Hope so.

It does seem on these boards there is the feeling that I am entitled to my discount, it better be a good one, no it better be the best one, and if I dont get it I'm mad and I'm going to Universal.

I still contend that those packages never were and are not now the best way to get a deal anyway. But that perhaps is a discussion for the budget board. I also looked at the starwood AE, I dont see how that card is any better than the Disney Visa. At least for those of us who dont fly a lot. I think it is not as good since you have an annual fee. Just MHO.

I agree on both points. I sure don't understand the age old threat of going to Universal. The fact that both places have rides doesn't make them the same vacation.

My bathtub and a swimming pool both hold water.....I find it hard to compare the two equally though. ;)

I know a lot of people have said that there haven't been any offers for Disney Visa members since the Visa came out, but I think there have been quite a few. Right now, there are some for Disney Cruises,

There is no "discount" for the Disney Cruise from the Visa card. It is up to $50 on-board credit. Which was the same I got with the Disney Club card and the same I can now get with the Castaway Club. No big deal there.

Reminds me of CurryCook's comment ...

Nothing like expecting the company to give away it's "product" just to keep people "happy."

I don't believe you get a $50 onboard credit for being a Castaway Club member. You get a free gift in the room (a towel and pin right now) and an invitation to a Castaway Club party, that is it, oh and you get a special check-in area that is just as crowded, if not more crowded, than the regular check-in line. :p

Wait a minute, I thought the complaint was that the DV card was supposed to replaced Disney Club and that it hasn't lived up to that? Now it no longer has to offer the same discounts, it has to offer BETTER discounts?

Well, yes, if you believe some people. If you listen to others, the discounts not only have to be better but also offered to everyone -- but I assume that "everyone" refers just to DV cardholders, especially those who have been "loyal" members since DAY ONE.

Didn't I just see on Mousesavers.com that the Disney Card had a promotional "room-only" code for up to 40% savings on rooms between 02/12 and 04/17?

I know it was going on at the same time as a code for the general public....and the only difference was that you could book until 02/11 with the Disney Visa code as opposed to 02/09 with the general public code.

Still....that's a pretty nice discount. If the general public code was not available for your resort, it's possible some people saved a load of money by using this code.

I know I saved on my Alamo Car Rental with the Disney Visa discount code. Some of the other codes were not available or sold out, and the Disney Visa code allowed me to rent a mini-van for $39.99 for our trip in May.

speedyf :)

I stand corrected. I received the $50 from DC not Castaway Club. I thought they offered it at one time.

I just recieved the following reply from Bank One:

Dear Melissa,

Thank you for taking the time to bring your concerns to our attention.

The offer you refer to is only available to a limited number of individuals who
received this credit card acquisition offer in the mail, apply for and receive
approval for the Disney's Visa® credit card. Because the offer is intended as an
acquisition incentive specific to that mailing, we are not able to extend it to
existing Disney's Visa® cardmembers or to individuals applying for the card
under other promotions.

Please continue to watch your Disney's Visa® statement inserts and your Disney's
Visa® website -- www.bankone.com/disney for cardmember-exclusive offers.

Sincerely,

Disney Rewards Guest Service

I didn't say there were discounts for Disney cruises or any of those other places, just that there were 'offers' available. To me, a $50 credit is a nice offer, especially considering that I am going on the Wonder for 4 nights in June and would love a $50 credit. Unfortunately, we can't get it, since although we were DC members when we booked last January, the card expired before our cruise so no $50 from DC and we can't get it with the DV since it has to be a new booking.

Regarding being mad that Disney/Bank One isn't extending the offer to everyone with a DV, even if they did it's basically like a postcard or other selective discount. Many DC members couldn't get a DV (either because they live outside the US or weren't approved), so if anyone has a 'right' to be upset, I would think it would be them, not those of us who have DV's and aren't eligible for a discount. Also, yes, I too pay the card in full every month and so I'm sure they're not looking to give me any incentives either since I don't bring in tons of money in interest charges for them every month.

Word for word...I especially like the way they tell us that "As your credit card company,
we value your business." twice.

Well, at least BankOne has gotten the correct information out. It should be pretty clear to everyone now that the promotion is only available to selected people, so perhaps the angst will begin to die down...
