For those growing up in the 70s or 80s, this is too funny

Okay, do you remember a movie where Goofy is playing pool and he's teaching about angles and trajectory and stuff? Or is it just me? Nobody else ever seems to have seen it.

Are you sure it wasn't Donald? I remember a live-action sequence in Donald in MathMagic Land with the pool lesson.

My Mom had a RED rotary Phone.::yes:: Turned out the President had one JUST like it! And the Phone Company had to come out to your house and HOOK IT UP!:earseek: No going to Circuit City/Brandsmart/Kmart/Walmart to buy one!:p

<font color=navy>And speaking of the phone company hooking up your phone ... remember the days when we didn't own our phones but got them from the phone company?

when penny candy actually cost ... a penny

straws were made out of paper

fizzy tablets

drinking Tang because the astronauts did

when we used tin foil instead of aluminum foil

cars that started when you pushed the starter button (we had a neighbor who had one)

slumber parties and having scavenger hunts where you went from house to house asking for things to complete your list

tee peeing

We used to build TeePees out of blankets thrown over the clothesline and actually sleep outside  !!! or on sleeping bags in the front yard. Nowdays, you just can't do that, you never know who'll be wandering around out there.

Anyone ever actually had a Dr. make a housecall to you? I did back when I had chicken pox in '72 or so.

And what about:

Cars that weren't even made with seatbelts
Waiting in line at the gas station for 1/2 hr
Out of gas signs at the stations
When regular gas meant leaded gas and it was called Ethyl
Local kids programming like J.P. Patches and Wunda the Witch in Seattle and the Santa and Kakeman show in Wichita (anyone who grew up in Wichita in the 70's will remember Santa and Kakeman and all the reindeer going zoooooming around the big wide world and zooooming and zoooming and zoooooming, god I miss Kakeman!)
Black and white TV
Bill collectors who actually showed up at your door (parents got a couple of them)
Smoking anywhere and everywhere. I remember my daddy smoking in the grocery store, at his desk at work and even in the church basement
(Hmmmm maybe my childhood wasn't so great)

Does anybody else remember the film "Bartleby"? He was the scrivener who "preferred not to".

On rainy days when we could not go out for PE (physical EDUCATION) we'd play these games where you had two long poles...had a person on each end of the poles....you'd clap them together, then on the ground while a third person would jump over/between the poles while some cheesy music was being played on the big grey record player.

Was there not a better time in school than when one of the audio-visual team nerds would wheel the film projector into the classroom? The first thing you'd do is see how big the film strip reel was....the bigger the better.

How about the filmstrips which a record you'd play for the audio...
beeep.....if you were the filmstrip operator, you'd better be paying attention or the room would erupt into "change it" or my favorite "focus".

mentioned about phony phone calls....did you ever order a pizza and have it delivered to a neighbor's house that you didn't like? The delivery guy would be knocking on the door and you would be laughing your head off. How about the Tootle-loop radio?

OMG! We totally did this. Except one time we decided to do it with a diaper service. I don't have the first clue why we went with diapers over pizza.

The Doberman Gang Movies- (the dogs were trained to rob banks)

The AMC Gremlin and Pacer - two of the freakiest cars ever built.

H.A.S.H Jeans - in Jr. High in 1978, you were not cool if you did not own a pair - I think they cost about $20 which was an outrageous amount to pay for jeans.

Also I remember we could go home for lunch instead eating at school.

OMG, I totally remember that!

And, I remember Kodak disc cameras, too.

Speaking of no air conditioning in cars, how bout the vinyl seats with no air in the summer? Sometimes you literally had to peel your legs off the seat to get out of the car!

As a teenager, a friend of mine had bought this huge station wagon, a real clunker with vinyl seats. It was pretty dirty so he used Armor All to clean the whole car, including the seats. Every time he turned a corner, we all slid to one side of the car. When he hit the brakes hard, we slid off onto the floor. LOL

I remember when the grocery store was just a grocery store. If you needed aspirin, you left the grocery store and walked to the drug store. If you needed home supplies, you went to the appropriate store for those. No one stop shopping at all!

Cordless phones didn't exist, much less cellular ones. Gosh, we didn't even have a push button one: black rotary only. No shoulder straps on seat belts, and even seat belts seemed pretty optional. No one would have ever thought of putting the little brother or sister into a child safety seat in the car. They were merely buffers to keep the older siblings from touching one another.

Bikes had 2 wheels and no gears, and it took a kid everywhere. No helmets because that is what baseball caps were for.

<font color=navy>Who remembers the mimeograph machines.... there were no Xerox copiers back in those days! We had to crank the original sheet, and the ink would then go onto the copies -- yellow paper - purple ink ... I still remember the smell.

Oh my gosh yes!!! I think my mom still refers to having copies made as getting something mimeographed. Yes, I do remember that smell.

What about St. Joseph's Baby Aspirin....the yucky orange stuff to chew when one was sick. I'm not sure my kids would even know what apirin was if I asked them.

I LOVED baby aspirin. My mom had to hide both that and the Flinstones vitamins 'cuz me N my friends would lock ourselves in the bathroom and eat them all!! :hyper:

POP ROCKS...... those candies that you would put in your mouth and they would fizz and snap all the way down your throat. It was worse when you did a shot of Coke or Pepsi with them.

HMMM i wonder what that did to your insides???

OK, while we're being nostalgic....Any of you thirty- and forty-something ladies actually wore a PONCHO to school?

Looking at the recent back-to-school fashions, I've seen these prominently featured. Of course, mine was used as outerwear, not as an option to a shirt!

I absolutely loved this poncho. My aunt crocheted it for me (received it as a birthday gift), and it had a matching purse as well! Thinking back, this was probably one of the few trendy articles of clothing in my closet, as the rest was Catholic school uniforms with a few jeans & non-descript shirts.

Pop Rocks Rocked! They actually still make them. We have an old fashined candy store here....the ones with the jars of penny..(.uuh ummm $.25) candy and they also sell a lot of those nostalgic candy packs. Pop Rocks, Hot Tamales, and, get this, candy cigarettes! Also, the little wax bottles with the sweet syrup inside.

did you ever wear Levi's Corduroys (sp?). I think they came in every color imaginable.

What about putting on your jammies and going to the drive in?? I miss that!

We used to do this all the time! I still remember watching Jungle Book in the back of the station wagon with in our PJ's with our huge grocery bag full of popcorn!!! Our drive-in had a playground in the front by the screen. I can remember thinking how cool it was that I was out swinging with my pajamas on!

My parent's still have an operating drive-in about 20 minutes from their house. Every time we were down there this summer, DH and I wanted to take our kids, but they were never showing any kid movies.

Nope, I definitely remember a cartoon with Goofy teaching it.

How about Aspergum!? It was gum WITH Asprin in it!::yes:: Oh, yes I had 2-3 Ponchos, I used to LOVE those!::yes:: I would wear them with my western style skirt and boots!:p

Thanks. It's been one of those days. I really need a laugh.
