For those who have driven from the western New York area, do you know approx. how much in tolls to put aside? Wanted to have all of our toll money ready in car and have no idea how much.

Depends on how you go. I go I-81 to US 17 to I 95 to I 4 and dont have to pay any tolls. If I take the PA Turnpike around Scranton, it's 30 cents and if i take the Central Fl greenway, thats a few dollars. If you go I 79 you may hit a toll road in WV. ( and the NYS Thruway) but thats about it. Not really many toll roads thru the south.Let us know your planned route and i'm sure someone here will know the tolls. Have a great trip.

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm curious how far outside NY the NYS Thruway's E-Z Pass is accepted. I've used it in Massachusetts, but wonder if I could use it in the South, even in Florida... that would be really helpful!

Not Florida, not yet at least. The furthest south I've used it on I-95 was in Maryland. (I can't remember if the Baltimore tunnel was included) Florida uses something called SUNPASS and it is not compatible with EZ or FAST Passes.

The EZ Pass website

http://www.ezpass.com/

has more details.

Hi Cricket - which route are you taking? If you have AAA they can map it out on a trip tik with tolls I believe.

Hi Deltach
We have a trip tick and it looks they they are having us go thruway to 79 to 77 to 95. From what I see, there is alot of construction. If anyone has any better routes, we are open to suggestons.

Mpaquest has similar directions, with using RT. 19 in WVA to cut off some miles (connecting from 79 to 77). The only tolls showing are on parts of 19 and 77 as this is the WVA Pike. From the WVA turnpike site, you can use EZ Pass.

Tols look to be about $2.50 fo rthe portion of the road youll be on.

Re: EZ Pass. We now have this available in Maine and they say you can now go from Maine to Virginia using EZPass...Hope this is helpful :sunny:

Thanks. Nice to see someone from the Tonawandas. I am assuming you are flying when you go in 21 days. Where are you staying? Have a great trip and fill me in when you get back.

Yes, its just a short solo trip (after DS (8) gave his blessing).. Flying out after work on 3/2 and back late on 3/5. Staying at the Sheraton Studio City by Universal (through priceline). Will be using a 2 day park hopper pass I have.

DS and I will be heading back in late August, the week before school kicks up. Not sure where we will stay. Hopefully SW or someone will have great airfares again this year.
