For the rental car geeks, pricing 2019 vs 2022

I am not sure of the value of adding together a lot of data from across the country or how someone could use such information. Recall there was a significant number of cars destroyed by a fire in an offsite storage location near MCO shortly after covid started. Clearly demand was down significantly when covid first started as most people were not traveling. There was also a computer chip shortage that impacted all rental companies being able to refresh their fleets. I doubt people decide to travel to Seattle instead of Orlando just because rental car rates are lower.

How many times do we see people on this site complaining about rental care prices and how they aren't what they were in 2018? You and I know the reasoning why there were shortages and then demand came back. Most people don't. If you asked 100 people that travel to FL regularly, how many would have any recall of that fire in Fort Myers that took out a thousand rental cars?
I think this goes to show folks that haven't been to Orlando in the last couple years should expect rental cars to be 30% more than they remember, and that still isn't bad when you compare the prices to other large cities in the US. After only renting at MCO for many years I rented at DFW, was very surprised at how much more expensive it was there.
