The only bright spot to an otherwise horrible week is that my neighbors are selling their house. We knew the original couple that built the house. We were newlyweds and they took us under their wings. We were invited over for an occasional dinner. I helped Tony do all of their landscaping. We laughed together. We cried together. We were neighbors.

The couple that they sold their house to we from another part of town. They already had established friends. We didn't talk much. That is until one day when the "new" Tony threatened to punch my lights out for something that I didn't do. It seems that they were great friends of the mayor and had done many improvements to their house without bothering to get building permits. They installed an above ground pool and hadn't bothered putting a fence around it nor did they have a gate on the pool ladder. We were concerned and talked with them about the situation with the pool. The told us that they were planning to put a gate on the pool deck ASAP. That was good enough for us. Then one of DW Sue's nosey friends decided to take matters into her own hands. She called the city building department and blew the whistle on our neighbor. To say he was angry is an understatement. I could not convince him that we had not called the city. He never really forgave us for what we didn't do. In the 12 years since, we haven't spoken much. There was the night that I noticed the smell of natural gas that seemed to be coming from his gas meter. I tried to contact him, but their dog was guarding their front door and I didn't know their phone number. So I called the fire department. And our neighbors were glad that we did. The natural gas leak was corrected without incident.

So now they are moving on. Their kids are grown and I imagine that the house is too big for them. Perhaps they are retiring and moving far away. That's fine by me.

I know that you can't pick your neighbors, but if the next owner is half as nice as the people who built the house, we will be overjoyed. Who knows. They might even be Disney people. :teeth:

I have this mental image of John doing a little dance around the computer at home - but where the neighbor can't see

I feel our neighbors are like that sometimes..well, the not talking part...:(
Hope the new tenants are everything you want..:)

Here's hoping the new neighbors are as nice as you are John!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

OK, TC, I'm waiting for the image that Marla just painted - where's the photo??? ;)

Good luck with your new neighbors - you deserve only the best!

Too bad your house isn't closer to the west side of Cleveland or we could become your neighbors! :D I'd love a babysitter right next dodr! :)

Pembo... really, its not that far of a commute from East to West Side... we did it all the time!

We would go from Beachwood to Lakewood maybe four times a week!

I have one of those neighbors too. They don't talk to us much since they stopped babysitting my daughter. They have had their house for sale for a few months.:D I can not wait until they sell it. I was hoping they would be gone before the spring but it doesn't look that way. But no matter what they are going to move.:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Waiting for that Happy Dance Towncrier.:p
